“Kit is fine I guess, but the promises on this weren't met and its the first time I was very disappointed in Pimoroni, as I don't feel they addressed it.
They said it would have:
"Twenty-four game programming tutorials
Full graphics/game programming library (C++ and Lua)
Heaps of free assets (sprites, music, sound effects) designed specifically for 32blit
Sprite, map, sound effect, and music editing tools"
This was clearly too ambitious, but I dislike that it was quietly shuffled off rather than dealt with via a apology to users. Basically as waste of money in many way, the hardware is fine but I was buying it for the assets and tools as I felt this was its USP.”
“It is amazing device for me because all bundle of developing tools are very impressive for me. If a). the analog joystick can be more small (like 3DS analog stick) than current one, b). plus L&R buttons, I think 32blit will be perfect handhled.”
“The concept of the device is brilliant.
I am especially happy with the screen. I imagined (from specs) it might be a bit too small for my ageing eyes, but it's actually perfect. Pixels are large, crisp and bright, equally fit for children and adult users. (Brightness-control range leaves something to be desired, but this is surely hackable in software.) R/G/B subpixels are fairly visible, but this (subjectively) adds to the charm, and (objectively) is unavoidable at this size and resolution.
On the minus side, the D-pad is squeaky (probably fixable with silicone oil) and has fairly long travel (probably not easily fixable). The switch mechanism under it and the ABXY buttons inspires limited confidence in its longevity, but it's large enough to be fixable at home should it fail.
A minor complaint is that the shape is somewhat unergonomic (for hands) for long gaming sessions; I don't think this will bother me personally, but some users might want to think of making a holder.”
