“Great product, and works right out of the box. It's very easy to assemble, and the online instructions are simple to follow.
Install the optional controller driver, and it gives the fan new abilities like being temperature controlled, and to change the LED lighting regime, but works without any of that also. The fan is pretty quiet when in use, and very low profile, so allows additional HATs to be stacked on top without having to use a header riser.”
“Maybe I am just dumb but the LED doesn't turn on! The fan works great though. I was able to quickly write a little temperature-activated script for it with the provided python library. I love how it just pops on top of the headers and still leaves room for other stuff.”
“Excellent little device to help manage the thermal profile of a RasPi4 running under load!
I have purchased two of these, for my two devices. One of them doesn't "play well" with one of my Pi4s (running Ubuntu Server 18.04): it causes lock-ups during boot, and my best guess -- fom watching an attached monitor during the boot process -- is that the fanshim PCB is sending some type of keystroke signal during the boot process, which interrupts it, and drops it out to a U-Boot shell. (???) The other FanShim works perfectly with it! Weird.
Notwithstanding the peculiarities I experienced (and maybe there is a reason for those), I still WHOLE-HEARTEDLY recommend this little addition for anyone pushing their RasPi4 with network services or applications. It really keeps the SoC running well at ~45*C or so.
Wonderful!!”
