NEW KURTAIL GOLD replaces Kurtail
Kurtail Gold is the new version of Kurtail (once called Kibosh).  Exclusive to Progreen, Kurtail Gold comes as the fully licensed replacement to the highly rated herbicide Kurtail which is proven as an effective total weed killer for many grasses and weeds as well as being  the original and most highly effective product on horsetail - also known as marestail.
The formulation of Kurtail Gold remains the same glufosinate ammonium, so users of Kurtail can still be assured of the effectiveness.

Application notes and guidance:

Horsetail is often called mare's tail but this is more accurately an aquatic weed (hippuris vulgaris). The correct latin name for horsetail is Equisetum arvense or ‘field horsetail’.NB:  Kurtail Gold is not approved for aquatic use.
Its root system is extremely vigorous and can grow very deep which is why it can regenerate after treatment and cultural controls, such as digging or rotorvating, will only spread and multiply the problem in the short term.
It is preferable to allow the horsetail/marestail weed to wither and die naturally before cutting or removing the weed. If this is not possible, then a minimum of 3 weeks should elapse before cutting or removing. Any horsetail/mares tail roots which emerge after treatment will require respraying.
Spraying should not take place if rainfall is due within 8 hours (minimum), 24 hours is preferable for best results.
Please read the label before use.
Please note that more than one application may be required, as new growth can emerge after the initial application.

Hard water issues:
KPlus+ is a water conditioner that ensures efficient plant action of pesticides and improves rainfastness. Water usually makes up over 95% of a spray solution, therefore it can have a huge impact on spray results. Hard water normally contains high levels of calcium. With some herbicides, high levels of calcium can render herbicides ineffective. KPlus+ 250ml is a spray water conditioner, specially developed to improve herbicide results - just add 100ml to an 20L knapsack BEFORE adding your herbicide. It acidifies spray water, offers better leaf coverage and improves herbicide uptake in the target weed. It also means increased rainfastness and faster weed knockdown.

I started treatment a year ago and I am on my third bottle which is very expensive but it is doing the. Along with the additive I use water from my filtered tap which is soft and helps the effectiveness. The mares tail is under control now but I will need to keep vigilant as the odd bit still appearing so need to make sure I keep some to hand

I have just rented a very overgrown allotment that was full of horsetail, thistles, dandelions and grasses. Kurtail has done a great job in killing all of these weeds. One spraying was enough, except for the dandelions which were more stubborn and required a second dose. I would definitely use Kurtail again.

I have been using Curtail for several seasons and yes it dose work ! I found that if you hit mares tail hard in the first year ie. spray 3 or 4 times in the fires season it dose knock mears tail and kill the roots which is the most important part. But mares tail is resilient and it will come back, so it is important to keep on top of it and spray again to keep it down.

It seems to be doing the job within a few weeks, but the mare's tail is quite established, and coming from my neighbour's garden, and it's fighting back with new shoots. I'm spraying again and gain until I gain control, hopefully. Mare's tail is dying back within a day or two where I've sprayed it. Delivery was fast and efficient. There was also an element of honesty that I was quite taken aback by that I appreciated. I won't divulge what that was though. However, I can highly recommended ProGreen.

Fabulous product. I think I was so desperate to get rid of mares tail that I made the solution stronger than I should, or it could be the k plus that made it more effective, but the mares tail started going brown within 3 days. Three weeks later I have spotted some new growth in different places - so they will get treated when the growth is bigger. I don't think I will ever cure the problem as the mares tail is rife all around where I live, and if no-one else treats theirs then it will just keep coming back - but I have the stuff to zap it with!! I have previously used normal Kurtail but opted for the gold this time. Again it could be my dilution, it could be the k plus, but this product was more effective (faster acting) than the normal Kurtail. It is a little pricey, but I would pay anything to see this weed DIE - so well worth the extra expense, especially if you spend a fortune on DIY shop bought weed killer only to find it doesn't touch mares tail. THIS STUFF WORKS
