My experiences echo a lot that has been written here. If you are reading this then you already know the horror that is horsetail. Was it Alan Titchmarsh who was once asked "what do you do if you have horsetail in the garden?", and he answered "move". From having no trace a couple of years back we have been overwhelmed by this pest (the horsetail, not Alan Titchmarsh) and have tried everything: digging it out (yes, yes, I know now), pulling the stalks frequently to try and weaken it, using proprietory strong weedkillers. And if you're reading this for advice then you know that none give more than temporary respite. So I heard about Kurtail. I read the reviews, balked at the price, but thought I'd give it a go anyway. The first thing to say is that although it is expensive per bottle, it dilutes a long long way, so per application it's pretty reasonable. Within days you could see the weed dying, and fairly quickly there were large swathes of dead horsetail. I've had nothing else that comes near. I'm not naive. I know the battle has only just started but this is the first Big Push that is showing results. I know we will still have to spray and spray as remaining little varmints poke their heads up, but we're winning I feel. For the first time I feel optimistic. Give it a go. Either that or move.

Used Kurtail on a large patch of marestail and after about 7 days the ends started to turn brown and start to die. But after over 3 weeks the main stem is still growing and new shoots are appearing. All it seems to do is turn it from green to brown but not kill it.

HI Nicholas - thank you for your review. Often when this occurs it is due to the fact that the marestail has not been sprayed to a run off point, or deep enough into the plant. Meaning that the herbicide only works with what it has come into contact with (hence the tips only going brown). When spraying you need to spray to the point on run-off over the whole plant growth. Additionally in these hot temperatures if sprayed in the heat of the day you can get volatilisation which means the spray evaporates – so not coming into contact with the horse tail long enough to control. The new shoots sadly are expected as Kurtail Gold only controls the active growth, as it works by reducing the vigour of the root system. Unfortunately there is nothing on the market that will kill the whole root network in one go. Kurtail Gold is the market leader in dealing with mare’s tail for the last 8 years, with very good outcomes for the vast majority of our customers. We’re sorry this is not the case with yourself. We’re more than happy to offer further advice if you want to contact us – info@progreen.co.uk . Thanks - The ProGreen Team
