This could have been so brilliant but fell quite a way short. Started off really promising - I had a phone call to discuss choice of pillows, booking meals & confirming our dog's name & breed. Lovely. However, the hotel is dated and shabby looking. Our room was like an oven with no air and on the hottest weekend of the year, we definitely needed the fan provided and the fan i took. Practically all the staff are university aged, and whilst very lovely, not efficient at all. Service was hit & miss. Breakfast is laid out in the corridor but don't go too late as it's either very dry or run out. It was lovely to have a bed, & toy for our dog on arrival however. And whilst I know its National Trust land, and there are loads of brilliant walks within the Ickworth grounds, it would have been nice to have had a small enclosed area where Dolly could run wild with the new friends. That, for us on a dog friendly weekend, would have been brilliant and we'd have put up with everything else.

We love this place. It's our 3rd year of staying there. It is such a dog & child friendly hotel. The food is of a good quality & all the staff are super friendly. There are so many beautiful walks to go on with the dogs & they can dine with you in the evenings if you so wish

Loved staying here. The room was large & comfy, although dated, but was in keeping with the aesthetics of the grounds & surrounding buildings. Although not having children with us, it was probably the most child friendly hotel we have stayed in, even leaving out milk & cookies for them of an evening. Travelling with our 2 dogs, we found the hotel very dog friendly, very relaxed where the dogs were concerned, with them welcome in most areas.....and of course the grounds of the estate were perfect for dog walking

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Worth it
We stayed in the lodge house at Ickworth House which is a stunning country house with part of it being a hotel This hotel has all the original features that I love. We stayed with our greyhound Cooper. He was looked up after really well but they did forget the welcome pack for him. Our room was on the ground floor and it was huge! The restaurant was lovely too and the staff very attentive Well worth a visit

We booked a few days break with our dog Moss to go on walks and explore the area. We had a very warm welcome and the staff went out of their way to show how welcome our dog was, making a fuss of him on arrival. We went with the deluxe room which was spacious and comfortable, complete with a comfy dog bed, dog bowls and a blanket. It's worth noting that this is a historic property, so the furnishings could be described as "eclectic", but all very comfortable. Those expecting that ubiquitous beige luxury blandness may be disappointed, but it suited us fine. We made great use of the facilities, the grounds are beautiful and great for dog walks. The food was great, from a robust selection of food for breakfast, the dinner menu is great and reasonable, and they even do a dog menu so your dog can eat with you in the restaurant. Great drinks menu too, and it's really nice to have a coctail in the very comfy and grand lounge. There are a few rooms dogs are not permitted in (such as the main dining room) which is fair enough, but the staff make sure that you feel welcome everywhere else in the hotel, and there were quite a few guests with dogs when we were there. Final point is that all of the staff were genuinely and lovely, all very friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable.

Our first trip away with our dog and nothing was too much trouble. They lent us a fridge for her raw food and we had access to lots of lovely grounds and wooded areas run by the National Trust who have a cafe where you can eat inside with your dog. The hotel is about to be refurbished, but the history is amazing. Lots to see locally, especially at Bury St Edmunds.
