From the moment we arrived, Melville Castle felt like stepping into a storybook. The grounds are breathtaking, with sweeping driveways, ancient trees, and the gothic elegance of the castle itself setting the scene. Inside, the atmosphere was a perfect balance of grandeur and comfort - majestic four-poster beds, rich décor, and little touches that made the stay feel special and personal. The staff could not have been more welcoming. Attentive without ever being intrusive, they made sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to accommodate our group (dogs included!). Our pups were treated like royalty, and it was a joy to find a castle stay that was truly dog-friendly. Dining at the castle was another highlight. Dinner in such a dramatic setting—candlelight under vaulted ceilings - felt like a feast from another time, while breakfast in the morning sunlit rooms was relaxed and delicious. What stood out most was the sense of history paired with genuine warmth. It never felt like a museum but like a living, breathing home where we were welcomed as honored guests. Between the gothic romance of the castle, the kindness of the staff, and the comfort of the rooms, our stay was unforgettable. We left feeling rested, spoiled, and already eager to return. If you’re looking for a stay that combines history, hospitality, and a touch of magic, Melville Castle is truly one of a kind.

We had the most magical stay at Melville Castle, and the best part? Our dachshunds, Binky & Bentley, were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived! Nestled just outside Edinburgh in stunning woodland, the castle feels like stepping into a storybook. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming — not just to us, but to the pups too. They were offered treats on arrival, and we were thrilled to find that pet-friendly rooms are beautifully appointed, spacious, and have direct access to the grounds — perfect for morning sniffs and evening strolls. The grounds themselves are a doggy dream. Acres of greenery, woodland walks, and lots of safe space to explore. We even had a peaceful coffee outside while the boys lounged under the trees. Inside, the castle blends historic charm with relaxed comfort. We enjoyed delicious meals (dogs welcome in the bar area!), and the team made every effort to ensure our stay was perfect — fur and all. If you're travelling with pets and want to treat yourself to a bit of luxury without compromising their experience, Melville Castle is a gem. We'll absolutely be back — tails wagging! 5 stars from us… and four happy paws from Binky & Bentley.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? My only negative comment would be that the pet friendly dining room isn't welcoming. It's down a narrow winding staircase, and has not windows, so a bit like sitting in a cellar.
Beautiful hotel. Castle and room was lovely, clean and inviting. Very dog friendly. Staff very welcoming. Would definitely stay again.

The Castle is stunning and the rooms spacious and well appointed. We were lucky and got the only ground floor room with direct access to the outside which made taking the dogs out first and last thing much easier. The food was also very good and the staff super helpful and friendly. The grounds are mowed but could have been better gardened. The woods are good for walking the dogs. I would say 4 * plus and therefore good value.

Nothing was an issue, the hotel was busy with other dogs but there was pleny space for us all to be, we have 2 large breed dogs who need their space, we never had any issues, it's a lovely venue we had a very relaxing break!

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? There was a wedding on one of the days with loud music until midnight. There was no warning of this at booking. I would not have booked if I had known.
A disappointment from the start. A poor welcome, no help with luggage, and a poorly decorated room. The staff were all friendly but obviously had no training in basic table service. Breakfast buffet was at best average. The evening meal was good apart from the shocking poor service. For the price paid I expected a lot more. The only positive was the hotel building and setting in beautiful parkland.
