Hood Drain Cleaning Brush All MX5 Models Reviews

These great quality flexible brushes are the perfect solution for cleaning those blocked hood drains, one of the biggest cause of water ingress into the cabin. These are actually trombone cleaning brushes (no, we're not kidding!) but are well known on many of the forums to be ideal for getting the muck out of the drains. There are many online guides which we recommend you follow if you are doing this yourself as there is the potential to damage parts of the hood drain system. The Mk1 & Mk2 drains are easy to find as they are just behind the seat belt towers under the carpet. The Mk3 is a little more tricky so click here for an excellent guide on how to do it.Suitable for use on all MX5 models, 1989>Please Note: Forcing the brush down the drains too hard has the potential to damage the flap inside, or push the bottom off the drain tube, as does pulling the brush back out through the top. The best way to do it is to push the brush through carefully and pull it out of the bottom of the car. MX5Parts accept no responsibility for any damage caused using this brush.

It works well. I'm for the gear stick and you'll be fine. If it gets stuck and you're in the right place then persevere... On one side it would not budge and kept coiling up. So I wiggled and twisted and re-inserted a few times (I hadn't reached the flap of no return). Each time more leaves and mud came out. It still wouldn't shift so I poured some water into the tray (which didn't drain) and wiggled it again. Eventually this softened the muck and it cleared

Great product. Used for my Mk3. Despite following on line guidelines, just could not locate into drain hole. Needs must and as the carpet behind drivers seat wet, being caused by them being blocked used OPTION 2 ( my own)--Rodded both drain holes in reverse.Obviously hassle as your under the car, plus cover flaps were flipped out with small stubby screwdriver.( small sacrifice)Easy then to feed and push brush through. You can feel and hear it enter the hood area.Stop ,then pull out.I followed this with washing through using garden pressure sprayer directly into drain zone at the hood hole.Bingo, water poured through, much to my relief,Shall make sure I wash these drain hole through once a month with my garden pressure washer.Need a dry hot day to dry those carpets.Hope this helps anyone who suffers the same problem.

Brilliant. I used curtain wire before which did the job but this is better for the drain holes. If only it was plastic coated like the curtain wire as it is quite floppy and the other end can hit the bodywork whilst you are trying to get started in the drain hole if you are not careful.

I nearly didn't buy this as I've never had a blocked hood drain, ever. But at the last minute I thought that come the day I needed one of these I would never be able to find on again.Lo and behold I noticed today that the drivers side hood drain had filled with water, a quick pull thru with this little device cleared it immediately. Real simple little gadget but very effective.

Purchased for my MK3 Sport. Instructions provided on the internet with photo's, which help. The only difficulty I had was locating the drainage hole with the brush end. That's why you need to see the internet instructions and photo's.Once found the process is straightforward. Remember also to vac both the plastic filters/drains on each side of the hood. Arrived next day delivery.
