Hood Drain Cleaning Brush All MX5 Models Reviews

These great quality flexible brushes are the perfect solution for cleaning those blocked hood drains, one of the biggest cause of water ingress into the cabin. These are actually trombone cleaning brushes (no, we're not kidding!) but are well known on many of the forums to be ideal for getting the muck out of the drains. There are many online guides which we recommend you follow if you are doing this yourself as there is the potential to damage parts of the hood drain system. The Mk1 & Mk2 drains are easy to find as they are just behind the seat belt towers under the carpet. The Mk3 is a little more tricky so click here for an excellent guide on how to do it.Suitable for use on all MX5 models, 1989>Please Note: Forcing the brush down the drains too hard has the potential to damage the flap inside, or push the bottom off the drain tube, as does pulling the brush back out through the top. The best way to do it is to push the brush through carefully and pull it out of the bottom of the car. MX5Parts accept no responsibility for any damage caused using this brush.

I haven't needed to use the hood drain cleaning brush yet, but I can see that it is an excellent piece of kit. Well made from quality materials (as usual in my experience of bying from MX5 Parts) so I have no doubt that it will do a great job when needed. Prevention is always better than cure!

I learnt the hard way... my first convertible & I didn't even know about the drain holes until I pulled up at a set of lights and found I had an impromptu pond in my footwell. I bit fiddly to get in like other said I mine were (obviously) blocked so took a bit of rodding and twirling to get through... I was so happy to see them pop out under the car. I originally tried a cheap one of the internet that was plastic.... don't bother... you need a decent sprung metal one to you can get some purchase pushing them in.

Does what it says on the tin. A must purchase for all MX-5 Owners. (NC myself) at first its a little hard to locate the drain pipes but after the first few times its easy. Good length, gets the majority of crud out of the pipes to restore correct flow. Never pull it back up, always out from the bottom otherwise you will damage the drains.

Bought before I even bought the car. Used when viewing and the first car I saw when used caused a huge splash of month old water to come out of the sills! Had I not done it I would've had a rusty sill issue sooner rather than later with that car so it saved me. Well worth the money and so simple to use.

Does what it says. Really well I might add. One thing I will point out is that the build up in the drain holes was fairly bad on mine and required a little agitation with an allen key from below. Well worth the money and with a little hot water afterwards will leave the drain holes spotless.

Not of any use for RF. Not really "compatible with all models" as stated.
