My mk1 MX5 has been in my garage for many years and having replaced my mk3 with a hatch back as I needed a more practical every day driver I decided to revive the Mk1. I needed new coilovers all round as the ones on the car were original and the car is a 1990 Eunos. Also three springs were broken. I looked on various YouTube videos and decided I could do the job myself. The rear was quite straightforward, just make sure you get the offset at the bottom of the unit the right way around. It will be clear when you do it. The front units are not so easy to remove and most of the videos say disconnect the top control arm by removing the long pivot bolt. I was not so keen on doing this as I thought getting the bolt back in may be a hassle. I then found a YouTube video (Project380 MX5 Coilovers Install). Watch this video. He disconnects the ball joint from the wishbone. You don't need a ball joint splitter however if like me you replace the ball joints at the same time you will. All together it was not to difficult a job. I am not a mechanic and I did it on my own. This hasn't be a review of the Vmaxx Coilovers as I haven't driven the car anywhere yet however they look great and MX5 Parts service is excellent. I hope to get the car MoT'd next week.

Two springs cracked after 4 years outdoor use in UK. Replacement set for 170eur when the 50eur shipping is added on is a bit irritating. Should have taken them off and rust treated them after noticing the paint flaking off after 1-2yrs.

Replaced the old and worn out suspension and springs with the coil overs. Very good value for money. Note, when fitting the rears the lower mount is slightly off-centre for the following reason; if you fit them the wrong way the tightening bolts will hit the drive shafts. So ensure you twist the bottom of the shocks the correct way to avoid this.

Decent value. Rear shocks are offset to avoid the collars hitting the halfshafts. Not mentioned in instructions!!!!

Spent Saturday putting these on my '91 Eunos. Fitting is relatively straightforward (although getting the old springs and shocks out is an absolute pig of a job...)The transformation is amazing...handling is excellent and the ride is much more supple and controlled, without the crashiness of the old setup.Great value too compared with standard springs and shocks so for anyone looking to cheer up an older car, I don't know any reason not to buy these.

Good coilovers for the money, not amazing, but look at the price!Don't buy them if your expecting a smooth and forgiving ride like you get from Meisters or BC racing coils, these Vmaxxs' are stiff but I bought them to be fitted to an MX5 that gets tracked fairly often so they were perfect for me. Would suggest the Vmaxxs' with adjustable dampening if you just want to cruise round some B roads in the summer. They aren't dangerously bouncy like TA techys and will keep your 5 rubber side down in the turns whilst providing plenty of stability and steering feel, they give you confidence in the turns.I'm very satisfied with how they perform for the amount they cost, greatly improved how my car handles, would recommend for people on a budget.

Very high quality and very well made. I'm pretty much a novice mechanic and managed to fit these without too much difficulty at home with my teenage son (using a few youtube guides etc). Was a good day or so's work for us. We have a P reg Mk1 with 63k on the clock. All the springs were original and the front shocks were original. Ride height was a very high 370mm. These coilovers got us down to 300mm at first fit, and we moved back up to 325mm front/335mm back which looks great and rides very well indeed. To drive, the car is transformed....feels 'new'. Would highly recommend these coilovers.
