Wow what can I say the hardest part of fitting was the fiddly lower plug but saying that it took less than fifteen minutes to fit and program and worth its weight in gold now I only need to push the button once awesome.

As others have said, a bit pricey and yes, the clip is a bit of a mare but it's brilliant.I don't see this as a luxury though. !2 seconds may sound quick but when you're sat at a traffic light that has just changed to green, not moving for 12 seconds makes you very unpopular. If the price is an issue then it's worth mentioning, you can remove it and sell it separately when you sell the car.

Unusual for MX5 parts this item took 3 days to arrive, but once it did, it took less than 10 minutes to fit, and works perfectly, but be warned, the max operating speed of 39mph only means the roof will not operate if you press the button above 39mph, however if you press the button then accelerate past 39mph while it's still going up or down it will complete the operation no matter how fast you are traveling, this could result in severe damage to the roof. It is expensive for what it is, I got it at a reduced price during the Easter sale, but I would advise shopping around.

Arrived today (10% off if you sign up for newsletters at moment) and it took less than 10 minutes to actually fit using the online instructions. There is a driver for both MAC and Windows users that allows you to configure the unit to how you want it to work (just four options to set - active/inactive, switch operation, speed limit (I set to 40Kmh) and warning beeps) using the supplied USB and then fit - just needs a flat head screwdriver to remove panel and push down the retaining clip on the connector to remove the existing cable. Piece of Cake !!

Silly expensive, not a required item - but it's really cool to operate while moving ... and practical in that you can start dropping the hood at the lights without worrying if the lights turn green halfway through the operation, just gently move off and allow the hood to complete. Also, when driving in the rain and arriving at a junction when the rain actually hits you, just push the button once and up the roof comes even if you move off.Installation:- excellent instructions, in English. The nightmare part is the removal of the connector on the existing module, this took me 2 hours of pain and suffering. You need to press a (hidden from view) latch and pull apart - I have fat fingers which doesn't help but it was simply impossible. The only way I did it was to half open the roof so that I could get a long screwdriver in through the roof with the window out the way (ignition OFF when doing this as it will finally part company with the module, which is the plan). The rest was simple. However, because the roof was half up the new module sent an alarm when the hood was put down and it wouldn't respond. Ignition off and on again reset it and it was fine afterwards. It is very impressive to move the roof while moving (slowly) - but installation isn't as easy as you would think. And it's very expensive for what it is, that said I waited for a 10% Off Offer and bought then.Delivery - as usual from MX5 Parts was faultless and speedy.A great present .... a luxury.

Easy to fit and a worthwhile (if somewhat expensive) modification to make to any PRHT MX-5. The unit comes ready to fit, although you are strongly recommended to download the set-up software and check for available firmware updates (some features only became available on later versions) before fitting. You can also use the software to change the available settings and enable optional features. Fitting is straightforward (the downloadable instructions are quite clear and easy to follow). The only slightly awkward bit is disconnecting one of the wiring connectors on the car (behind the passenger seat). You need to be able to apply firm pressure to a release clip while simultaneously pulling the connector apart. I found a couple of flat screwdrivers useful here - a thin one to press the clip and a broader one to start prising the connector apart. Once fitted, you can enjoy the freedom of being able to open/close the roof without having to come to a full stop (and remain stopped while the roof goes through its motions). The roof will also continue to open/close without you having to hold your finger on the buttons. You can also set the unit to allow one-touch opening (just release the roof clamp and the roof opens all by itself).A word of caution though (as mentioned by others): It is possible to set the unit to allow operation while the car is moving at up to 40mph. This is a bit too fast really - especially as once the process has started it will continue even if you subsequently accelerate to a much higher speed while the roof is moving. I would recommend setting the speed parameter to 25mph or so to be on the safe side.If you have a laptop computer, the settings can be changed even while the unit is installed in the car - just take the laptop to the car and plug in the (provided) USB cable. Even if you don't have a laptop, you can still change the settings using the dash mounted control buttons - full instructions are included in the downloaded manual.

Yes, it's expensive - but it will transform your enjoyment of the car. You don't have to be stationary when the roof is raised or lowered before you set off, or when you arrive, or when you are at traffic lights, or poodling down a lane, or on a highway. One touch of a button and the job is done. Yes, you have to slow down to 20 - 30 MPH, but this controller allows you so much more control - and you should never get wet again!

Painfully expensive, even in the 10% discount sales (but that's not MX5Parts' fault, the manufacturer thinks we all have as much money as Porsche and Merc owners :-(However, having bitten the bullet, it's an excellent upgrade - the one thing I missed about my old soft top was the 3 second open/close time, and it's great not to have to stop dead to operate the hood.Programming via USB is simple, and then installation is easy. Although the plug is painful and difficult to remove as it's tucked behind a metal plate, you just have to find the middle of its back face with one finger while you rock & pull the sides with your other hand's thumb+finger. Ignore the manufacturer's poor instructions and follow these (but there is no need to unbolt anything unless you really can't shift the plug): http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=421629
