Door Lock Release SpringQuite often these break on the Mk1 rendering the door handle inoperable, and as they were never available from Mazda, the only option was to replace the complete lock assembly. Well, not anymore! We have had these little springs manufactured here in the UK to exactly the same specification as the original, right down to the tension and the 90 degree offset on the hooks. Fitting is simple, although removal of the lock mechanism is required.Fits all Mazda MX5 Mk1 models, 1989>1998

Its a bugger to fit but can be done just by taking the door card off. The new spring fitted perfects and has worked faultlessly so far for a couple of months. Very happy, thank you mx5 Parts.

The door stopped unlocking. Thought I was in for an expensive lock mechanism. Looked on here and a 4 quid spring fixes the fault. Easy to fit and we are up and running again. Thank you MX-5 parts.

Simple job after the trim removed. I threaded a length of thin cord through the spring before I started and formed a loop. Tied this to a convenient part of the door in case I dropped the spring. Used a pair of forceps to fit it.

Brilliant service as ever, bit tricky but once you find the correct position it went on (with the aid from my wife, as my fat podgey fingers were not up to the final task).i did buy 2, to have a back up, good job as i lost the 1st one in the bowels of the door...Good pic here...http://mx5driver.proboards.com/thread/4376/mk1-drivers-door-release

Piece of urine. Two minutes to get the door card off, one minute to get the spring on. Sweet. Much better than the quoted £92 for the lock assembly plus an hours labour at £55 at my local grease monkey. (I should add that a pair of locking medical forceps were perfect for this job!).

Great product, worked a treat! and delivered very quickly as always.I'd been shamefully climbing over the seats of my R Ltd for over a month as I'd been putting off sorting out my stuck shut drivers door - stupid as it was a piece of cake and took about an hour including finding tools (only needed needle nose plyers, a largish stubby philips and a thin small flat screwdriver in the end), and looking up some very helpful pics on the mx5oc forum (http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/269.aspx).I got the door card off no problem, the popper things came apart fairly easily carefully using my fingers. It took me a while to get the door open, eventually I worked out which lever to pull. I think I'd pulled the right lever early on but had accidently locked it without realising so it didn't work (doh!), it took me a while to figure out what I'd done but I got there in the end!Anyway I managed to get the new spring in ok, I did the outer end first, used the small screw driver to hook the other end near the hole it goes in (pretty easy to see this when you're looking at it), it stayed in place near the hole long enough to get my hand in and guide it home. BINGO! a working door.I sprayed some spray grease on anything that moves to try an protect and lubricate everything, and it went back together a treat, even all the poppers popped back in!£6 inc postage for a simple little spring is a tiny bit steep, but a fixed door for £6 is a total bargain so 5 stars from me - wish I'd done it a month ago lol.

With a decent light and long fingers I find I can replace these by gradually working my hand through the rear aperture in the door frame, but I accept no responsibility if you get trapped by your Mazda in the attempt!. A long pair of narrow tippled pliers and steady hands is probably a smarter idea, but either way it can de done without removing any of the mechanicals. Certainly the first thing to suspect if one of your doors won't unlock.
