Cam Sensor 'O' Ring MX5 Mk1 Reviews

Camshaft Sensor 'O' Ring. Located at the back of the cylinder head, if this seal fails it will produce quite a large oil leak the can seem as if the rear crank oil seal has failed. If in doubt, always replace this first.Fits all Mazda MX5 Mk1 models, 1989>1998

Works perfectly. I had suffered from an oil leak from the back of the engine for several years. I had even replaced the cam sensor o-ring before, but the problem was, somebody had installed an o-ring with too-small cross section. I replaced it with one the same that, of course, still leaked. MX5parts supplied the correct one and now, no oil drips on the garage floor! I have a 1990 MX5 with the sensor on the right hand side of the block. Do not try to do this job without taking the cam cover off - there’s no way of getting the cam sensor out because the bulkhead gap is too small. With the cover off, it’s easy to mark the position, remove the saddle over the sensor and replace the o-ring.

Definitely worth replacing a hardened o-ring as will invariably be the case with most Mk1s. In my case, the continuous dripping of hot oil on to the heater inlet hose perished the rubber until it eventually popped with very dramatic results - steam everywhere!

Just what you need to stop that leak down the back of the block. I've just done mine so Im hoping it's sealed. I found it dead easy to change with the cam cover off.

Noticed the leak from the smell of hot oil! Job took 40 mins. Not quite the 10 others have claimed.Used a Stanley knife with a new blade to cut the O ring on the diagonal in the groove then pulled it out with a pair of pin-nose pliers. The re-fit was the worst bit, took 7-8 goes to line up the tangs. Usual excellent service from the folks here. Tip: buy 2 rings, just incase!
