Bonnet Lifters Chrome MX5 Mk3/3.5 Reviews

3.9 Rating 13 Reviews
Read MX5parts Reviews

IL Motorsport have worked together with one of the leaders in hydraulic lifters world wide to produce this new system for the Mk3/3.5. The system is installed using all the existing mounting points, no drilling is required. The lifters themselves are chromed and come with a 2 year waranty. The result is superb. The bonnet lifts with no effort, with the lifters even having a 'slowing' effect as the bonnet reaches the fully open position. The lifters are strong enough to hold the bonnet open even in strong wind, yet have minimal resistance when closing :-)Now available in Black! If you have a 2008> Mk3.5 model fitted with the OE resonance chamber, you will also need this bracket for a perfect fit.Fits all Mk3 & 3.5 models, 2005>2012.Please note: These will not fit Mk3.75 models from chassis number 350000 on wards that have the DHS system.

Easy to fit, although the movement of some cabling/ducting was fiddly. I also had to file down part of the seat that fits into the bonnet via small cut out holes. Nothing major and took less than 30 minutes to get fitted. They look great and do the lifting job very well. Recommend.

Only thing stopping me giving a 5 are the instructions. Not enough text to explain and the pictures are not helpful at all, nee to be bigger and in colour. The product it self its very good I have had no problem with the plastic panel clips which other reviewers have. The worst part for me was trying to get the backing bracket into the bonnet hole very fiddly and awkward. Very happy though with final outcome, they work great and look good in the bay.

ok, my initial review was pre install. Product looks good quality, i found decent instruction on ILmotorsport webpage. No problems during install. Once moved through range of movement a couple of times the bonnet opens effortlessly and closes as it should. i’d probably give them a 10 / 10 as a initial assessment. I’ll return in 6months and give an update.

I purchased a set of these Bonnet Lifters in September 2014. Its now June 2015 and the cylinder outside diameters are rusting badly. The "chrome" is of very poor quality. They come with a 2 year warrantee...I wonder if this applies to the chrome?

Recently fitted these to our Mk3.5 and posted review which has not appeared for some reason. Overall the product fits and functions well. Fitting is rather a fiddle especially the elongated backing component that inserts into the bonnet. Be careful not to loosen the set bolt too far as you will risk loosing it!! Also the tiny pin/spring clips that retain the bracket balls in the lifter sockets are fiddly and mine needed de-burring in order to fully insert the pins. Yes the plastic "bolts" that fix one end of the lower brackets to the side of the engine bay do not fill one with confidence but after a couple of weeks they seem to be holding up well. Finally the instructions. Oh dear, what on earth can one say that is printable!? I contacted I.L. Motorsport who advised the translation from German had been done by a computer programme. They have now been re-written in plain English and will, I hope be of use to those who buy this product in future.

Long time customer of MX5 Parts, on my 4th MX5, a 3.5, in general very happy with parts but do get annoyed with stupid little things that could be fixed. These lifters are very nice, my second time I've bought them and would buy again, but doesn't anyone read these reviews or take any notice. Without wanting to be picky the plastic " bolts" are corner cutting, the lower mounting brackets when tightened cause the bottom lifter socket to scrape the paint. As a tip for anyone who has the facility replace the plastic fittings with RivNuts, this cures both gripes.

I've had them. On my Mk3 for about 3 years now and they have been flawless. Very easy to fit from what I can remember too.
