Left Hand Boot Lid Lifter KitHave you got a rear spoiler, stainless boot light, saddle bags or such like fitted? Now you'll find that the puney springs on the boot lid will no longer lift it open. Well, here's the solution! Our boot lid lifter will automatically raise the boot lid once the catch is released. This one is fitted to the left hand side of the car as you are stood at the back looking forward. Can be used in conjunction with the right hand version for handling even more weight.Fits all Mk1, Mk2 & 2.5 models, 1989>2005Fitting Instructions

So bought this for an Eunos S-Special which includes a mazda factory rear spoiler. It arrived sealed in an IL Motorsport bag with the strut attached to the bracket the opposite way around compared to the instructions and photos. Once I changed that over, it was really easy to fit following the instructions. It didn't lift the boot lid at all and in fact made it harder to open manually, as you are now pushing the piston inside the strut through the oil aswell as lifting the boot lid. Once opened manually, it does stay fully open which is an improvement over stock but it also requires more effort to close it than before. Ironically the strut seems to try and push the boot lid up to just above the latch ... I suspect the strut to be faulty so I contacted MX5 Parts, who didn't receive my first two e-mails but on my third attempt they were helpful. After reviewing photos of my installation they agreed it looked correct, with the only thing being the strut was mounted slightly higher (5mm ish) up the hinge on my car compared to the photo of their demo car. They added that they doubted this would be the cause of the fault. They have offered me a full refund if I take the equipment off the car and return it. Which I now need to find the time to do AND I'll be left with a hole drilled in my hinge. I'd of preferred that they sent me a replacement strut, then I could of just swapped it over. I guess that is maybe going above and beyond what they are required to do. I was going to buy the bonnet lifter kit but this experience has put me off - maybe they have 'old' stock and the struts have perished somehow or it could just be a faulty batch.

Hi Mark, We're really sorry to hear about your experience with the Boot Lid Lifter Kit. It’s disappointing to learn that the strut didn’t perform as expected and that fitting it led to difficulties. We appreciate your feedback regarding the installation and communication with our team; we will definitely take this on board to improve our services. We always aim to resolve issues as efficiently as possible, and we will discuss your feedback with our team for future improvements. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Thank you MX5parts

Fitted this in no time at all and made a great improvement to the boot. Only needed one as the boot wasn’t to heavy with the spoiler on. Highly recommend

Ordered in bank holiday sale, shown in stock. Took a week before they posted it, hence only 4*. The kit, however, is excellent and easy to fit. Everything is well made and fitted perfectly. I used the jack brace to remove the spring rod from the right hand side, which made it much easier to release. Place a sheet in the boot to catch any metal swarf from the drilling of the hole. The boot lid now opens fully in a progressive way and stays open. Would recommend this.

Straightforward fitting (after I'd watched the youtube video others mentioned). A previous owner had fitted a spoiler so the lid did stay up; now pops up and stays up.

Instructions aren't that clear and once fitted, the boot doesn't open smoothly, there is a judder. It does open the boot though so I guess it does what it says on the tin.

Absolutely brilliant bit of kit! I have a rear upper strut brace and the piston fouled against it so I had to make a slight mod but it’s all good now! Again fast service from mx5 parts

Honestly a cracking piece of engineering-cleverly hidden, less than half hour to install, but the best bit is the German instructions translated into comedy English complete with sarcasm in points 7 and 11-even if you just read the instructions it'd be worth it!
