Provided sump plug washer was steel not copper: I\'m not sure of official spec, but one on my car was copper so steel washer didn\'t seem right.Editors Note: Thanks for the review. Just to confirm that the original Mazda washer was steel so the chances are that someone has used a copper version during a previous oil change on your car.

When it comes to lubrication you simply can't take risks. This Mazda part is exactly as specified and no more expensive than a generic part one could find at your local car store, but this also comes with a new sump washer so, bonus! This is the only replacement filter I use.

Quality filter, wouldn't use anything else. Tip for avoiding an oily mess when removing the filter (mk2 at least anyway), use the scissor jack on the sill to raise the height of the *right* hand side of the car up at an angle. Leave it like that for a few minutes and the oil will drain from the filter back into the engine. Don't get under the car when it's like this though, remove the scissor jack and raise the car properly before starting work.Doing this should ensure that only a few drops escape instead of the deluge you get if the car is kept on the level.

Great service again from MX5 Parts - thanks.Rubber Kitchen gloves (on both hands as you will want to swap angles of attack!) and squeezing my arm into the gap on the right side (facing forward) managed to get at the old filter - it ain't easy though! My car has an engine brace and that makes it more of a squeeze.Thought I'd done well - all went to plan. I drove off to test the car and came back to my oil drip canister having been blown over. Silly me - I hadn't put the cap on! Whoops - but a cautionary tale for others.New washer very handy as well - the old one had obviously been used a couple of times (by a garage) and needed cutting off the bolt.

Thanks to Jochen, Mick and Chris for all your help last week when I brought my Mk 1 in for its service and cam belt change. The car's running really well now and I'll definitely be bringing it back to you for servicing in future!

Drain plug washer included with filter is for Mk1. You will need to order a Mk2 washer for a 2 or 2.5. Apart from that the filter and delivery were up to MX-5 Parts usual service.
