I purchased this item to replace the original cat which lasted 19 years and 94,000 miles. This one managed 3,100 miles and three years. When I was told my car had failed the mot on emissions, I then wasted even more money on diagnostic tests as I could not believe the catalyst could have failed after hardly being used. It had. I phoned mx5 parts to discuss my disappointment, and I was advised that three years (irrespective of the low mileage) was about right. This item is described as \'high quality\', which is misleading and the description needs to be amended. I have been given free delivery on the replacement I have had to purchase, but this is not really good enough. If something is sold as high quality it should better than this.Editors Note: Sorry to hear that you have experienced problems with this item. Generally speaking, cats on their own don\'t just fail, something will have caused it. This link is to a US exhaust manufacturer. If you scroll to the bottom of the page and click where it says Problem, they list some of the most common causes - http://www.bobsmuffler.comThe reason OEM cats last much longer is that they are produced with much bigger monoliths and can withstand running problems for much longer, hence why they are so much more expensive. Aftermarket manufacturers use smaller ones as they are more cost effective to produce. They are normally fine, providing the car is running perfectly. The question must be asked, if the original OEM cat needed replacing, and that replacement has also failed, it would point towards something causing it to happen.

Poor quality item, only lasted 1 year before internals fell to pieces causing nasty rattle. I would advise getting a second hand oem Mazda, or fork out for a new oem which are much better quality.

Very disappointed with this part and service received trying to resolve fitting issues, had to resort to cutting and welding to get to fit as angles all wrong.

Very bad choice ... This catalytic converter is not expensive ... but it is no more ... Bought in November 2012, mounted in April 2013, it is now out of use. He has not resisted one year of operation and less than 4000km.

Very disappointed with this cat, it is 2 years old and I have done less than 5,000 miles and my car has failed an MOT on the cat. The year before it only JUST passed. This is unacceptable, when I rang to complain last year to MX5 Parts I was told that after sending the reading from the garage that this was acceptable. DON'T purchase this item.

Addition to my previous review. After several e-mails with Mx-5parts, my problem is solved and I am happy with their service. The Cat has a much lower price tag now.For this price it probably is a good product.

I had a leak from a weld after about 1 months use. Looks like a tiny rust hole.Mx-5parts says I should return it or fix it my self.Returning it will put my car in the garage for weeks. It should not be necessary to book time at a garage to fix new parts.

I bought this cat in april 2010. Since then, I drove aprox. 15000 km. Just yesterday my mazda didn\'t pass the dutch equivalent of the MOT. In the opinion of the garagekeeper, the only possible explanation was failure of the cat.I\'m not really content with the lifespan of my particular cat. Viewing the other reviews with one star, I sincerely hope someone from mx5parts could contact me too. RegardsFrankNetherlandsEditors Note: Soory to hear you have had problems with this part. Of course, someone from customer services will be in touch soon to get the matter resolved.
