Window Winder Cables MX5 Mk1 Reviews

4.3 Rating 16 Reviews
Read MX5parts Reviews

Genuine Mazda PartThe MX-5 windows are operated by cables wrapped around a drum that is then turned by an electric motor. 99.9% of all problems with windows are caused by the rusting of the inner cables in their outer sleeves. This causes the windows to be stiff or run slowly and eventually the cables break. We can now supply replacement cables! Their are two cables in each mechanism, a short one (the upper cable, that raises the window) and a long one (the lower one, that lowers the window). We strongly recommend that you replace BOTH cables. We can also supply the nylon drum that the cables are wrapped round. This is often damaged when a cable breaks.Fits all Mkl models, 1989>1998 with electric windows.

It took me four hours and fifteen minutes (including two fag breaks) to do this job start to finish. Hadn't done it before and also I spent some time cleaning up the motor, regulator & inside the door etc. Not much else I can add to the wealth of useful info already posted. Just make sure you've got your patience fuel tank fully topped up for this one!

Good Product but you need a lot of patience to fit these cables which I do not have! Luckily My dad was able to get these wound on correctly but it is a fiddly time consuming job that left me wanting to slit my wrists. If you have the patience and mechanical skill buy these if not I recommend considering the after market kit.

As the previous customer said, can be a really awkward, time consuming task to wind these cables back in. It is easy enough to work out what goes were but not so easy to wind the cables back into the drum, and make sure your purchase another drum as well when you buy these. I have Eunos Roadster MK1 1992 and these cables were the right for my windows but unlike the last review my original cables came with dust covers so i didn\'t need the new ones really. My personal advice to anyone who decides to purchase these is, well, not to bother. Just get a whole new window mechanism and if you have trouble with that then just get it down to a Mazda garage and have it fitted. This is what I did after chewing up one of the cables so i took it to my nearest Mazda MK5 specialist and paid around £120 to have a whole new mechanism fitted, that include the price of mechanism as well. BUT WAIT!!!!! Before you do that take out the original window motor, if it works, and flog it on EBAY. I managed to get £80 for mine, what a lucky person I\'am!!!

The cables are perfect - orig Mazda parts. Fitting is tricky - there's a good guide here: http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=52280 NOTE: Not particularly well described is the need to temporarily remove the 'U' guide at the bottom of the window regulator, in order to provide the slack needed to wind the last bit of cable onto the drum. Once the cables are in place, slide back & reposition the 'U' guide into place. The cables should be under tension at this point, with both springs partially compressed. And have plenty of baby wipes to hand as you will get greasy.

Get someone who has done this job before to do it. Fortunately I work at a mazda dealer so help was at hand. Jim Kerr at Edwards Mazda Worcester fitted these for me within 45 mins. Easy when you know how. Excellent value works a treat now.
