The Split Beater has a "cross-cut" hewn into one end. This produces a clicking sound as it strikes the bodhrán. The clicking can be adjusted by moving the grip band up or down the cut. There are a lot of different shapes of beaters and most bodhrán players have a variety of beaters and tippers. The type you use is all down to personal preference. “It broke in less than an hour of playing. To get a replacement I would need to pay to ship it back to Ireland from the US, which would be more than I payed for the beater. Store credit wouldn’t help either since I’d have to pay for shipping on anything I buy anyway. The other beaters I bought a year ago are holding up fine, so I think that this split beater isn’t structurally strong enough for hitting a bodhrán. (It sounded nice till it snapped.)”

“Good but not great Gives a softer clickier sound but its too similar to the double ended beater that came with my drum and I find it harder to control. The splits are cut tidily but slightly misaligned. Doesn't affect the sound and isn't obvious so you might accept it as a hand made aspect. Certainy the finish is great and the adjustment for the splits works well.”
