The Split Beater has a "cross-cut" hewn into one end. This produces a clicking sound as it strikes the bodhrán. The clicking can be adjusted by moving the grip band up or down the cut. There are a lot of different shapes of beaters and most bodhrán players have a variety of beaters and tippers. The type you use is all down to personal preference. “I recently placed another order for bodhran beaters with McNeela's. I ordered a spare split beater as I really do like the sound it creates, a thumb grip beater and a bamboo beater. When I opened the package I was pleasantly surprised to find that McNeela's had combined the split beater and thumb grip beater in the one unit. This combination works really well for me. This beater is lighter than my original one and made from a darker wood that is very nice. It gives a different sound to the original one, which is fine . Since buying a new bodhran and quite a few different beaters my playing has improved immensely. McNeela's are a great company to deal with and I cannot recommend them highly enough.”

“I bought this beater along a few others to go with my new McNeela's 16 inch tunable bodhran. The split beater gives a wonderful clacking sound. I recently played with it at a music session and everyone thought I was somehow playing "Cheater's Spoons" and the bodhran! Great beater.”
