The Hot Rod 2 - Bodhrán Beater

Formerly known as 'The Brush 2', the Hotrod 2 is perfect for low-end playing and for achieving a textured tone from your bodhrán. A must have for every bodhrán player!
This bodhrán beater is made from approximately 24 individual narrow wooden dowels held together with black electrical plastic banding which has been heat shrunk to provide a comfortable grip. Featuring an adjustable band to tighten or loosen the dowels, this beater offers an exciting range of sounds - perfect for those who want to take their playing to the next level.

What is a hot rod stick?
Hot rod tippers have become incredibly popular in recent years. These beaters produce a much softer sound than hard tippers. They also offer a percussive click when striking the bodhrán.
In their most basic form, they’re simply thin dowels of wood, held together by tape. Hot Rods cover the same impact area as most hard tippers, but deliver more attack per impact point creating a full, warm, resonant tone.
Many bodhrán players like these beaters for their versatility. Most hot rod beaters come with a means of tightening or loosening the dowels allowing for a variety of sounds. The wider apart the dowels, the softer the sound, with more audible click. The tighter or closer together the dowels, the closer the sound will be to that of a hard stick.

“This is one of my new favorites. It’s solidly made and securely fastened on the top end. The grip material is comfortable and o-rings underneath it allow for different length grip positions. The front stick ends are all well sanded and rounded, and you don’t have to keep repositioning them after every set.”

“If you’re looking for a top quality hot rod style beater, this is the one. Prior to this one, I had a poorly-made hot rod from a different company. It was held together only around the bulk of the sticks and the o-ring at the front. It meant sticks constantly had to be realigned and pushed back in. This hot rod is the hot rod of hot rods. The sticks are securely fastened with the end cap; handle is tightly fastened with the heat shrunk grip; the front o-ring is durable and movable; and the stick ends are well-rounded and sanded. This is my go-to beater when I need to be able to produce different sounds on my bodhrán.”
