I purchased a Dixon Low D whistle which was well packed and arrived in a good time space as said. It is good quality for the price, light. I have played flute for 60 odd years and adjusting to the open holes is a bit of a mission, but I'm getting there now. I have found that D2 requires all fingers on, not lifting the left index one, helps get that note better, and steadies the instrument for other notes too. The sound is fine. There isn't much difference between C and C# though, but it is a long tube for a whistle, so I don't expect it to be perfect. i will look at an alto G in the future though.

The Dixon Low D whistle is fine for tone at the price. I am a bit unsure about the C# though. All notes seem fine apart form that one that seems only 10% sharper than the C natural. I have tried adjusting my breath pressure with no effect. I have checked it against my flutes and tuners and it is way flat. Not very helpful for a whistle in the key of D. It is fine for the key of G of course, but I will look at a better quality whistle in the future. i understand there is a trade off with other notes on these rudimentary instrumnets of course. When I play in the key of G I can actually play the C# instead of the natural and because it is so flat it is fine! Most of my music is in G or D, and a G Alto would be ideal for harmonising with any other instruments in those keys. Pity the Wild Whistles are only down to A and not G for that reason. So I am left with a Kerry whistle in the future I suppose. Having played flute for around 60 years now, I still find I can do anything on that ,that I try on the low D and more. just not quite the same rudimentary tones. I got the Low D for slow Irish Airs, but I play a lot of Swedish folk music too, as does my wife. Any jigs or reels I tend to pick fast on the guitar, as I don't have the breath at nearly 80 that I used to have. I played clarinet and tenor sax in the past too, and a bombardi, so familiar with woodwind, and understand that whistles can be a bit iffy in their perferction of notes. That's all the fun of playing a basic instument. I have noticed the 2nd hole on my low D is 4 mm nearer the 3rd hole than it is to the first hole? That isn't the case with my high D Feadog that plays perfectly in tune up the scale. I see other whistles on line that are eaqually spaced on the top 3 holes too? So I have questions in my mind unanswered about this Dixon one I have, but I can live with it. I am impressed with the sound of the MacNeela Wild whistles though from Brians playing. it would be good if you make an Alto G in the future that would cover 95% of the tunes I play in D and G. It doesn't matter if there is noone accompanying you on guitar etc, but if they are playing chords the perfect 4th/5th is essecntial to harmonise. The Wild A would be good for keys of A and D, but a ' G' would cover G and D, the two most used keys in folk music. I play a lot of Mozart/Greig etc with notes right up to A in the top register, and I picked up the C# straight away, and tried everything I can to sharpen it. But haven't succeeded yet. But i'll stick with it. I'm now used tot he pipers grip. Your delivery service was excellent too.

Bought this for my teen son and he really loves it. Good quality—He is quite clumsy but I don't think he'll ever manage to break this one. A warm, rich tone.

I like to bring this whistle with me when I go kayak camping. It's a good sport and I don't worry about it getting wet. The sound over the water is amazing and wild birds sing along. It's a lot more sturdy than I had imagined. Beautiful tone.

I play outside a lot and the polymer low D holds up well being dragged to outdoor weekend venues. Sounds great in rugged conditions.

Never played a whistle before but rather have many years of experience on a flute. Bit of a curve ball learning the piper's grip and breath control for the different material/length but overall I'm happy with it. Good product. Current impression is that its a bit airy but to my ear it would be since I'm used to a metal instrument. My only real complaint would be that it took a month for it to ship to me even though it said a week or two for shipping to the US. A bit of a let down given that I ordered it with the hopes to do a bit more learning before bringing it with me to a social gathering next week.
