Great flute! I am a perfect flute beginner. However, I succeeded in making a sound immediately! Practice is fun. It was good to buy. I am very happy with the text and maintenance kit I bought with it.

Beautiful and well made The Cocuswood Flute is beautifully made and reasonably priced. I am confident that it was the right choice for learning to play the Irish flute.

Lovely well crafted flute, you can tell it is good quality! I have played Irish Whistles high and low ones! I also have been learning a plastic Fife! I felt ready to move on to the Flute! I like that Mcneilla gives you lots of information, videos giving the sound of the flutes! There is clear information on the website on how to care for your flute! I was lucky to get this Cocus wood flute at the Black Friday reduced price. I felt that the actual price is still fair for the quality of this flute. It is quite weighty, not quite as heavy as I suspected, which is a slight relief! I have only just started using it, but have managed to get a sound out of it! I have ordered the maintenance kit! The instrument has a nice sheen to it which seems like it protects it somewhat! I think for an ambitious beginner or an intermediate player this would be a good choice! The delivery was very prompt. There was good information on the website about some delays due to the Christmas period, which I appreciated, but the flute arrived in about 10 days, the given window was about 10 to 14 days. The tracking for the parcel was very put to date and helpful! This is my first dealing with Mcneila - I would recommend them, they are very professional, friendly and courteous, and seem very passionate about their products and musical in general! Thumbs up all round guys! x

Love it! Wasn't sure at first, I already play uilleann pipes and low whistle but absolutely love this flute. The finish, look and tonal qualities are awesome adding a new dimension to my playing. Just got to get the techniques right now and I'm away. Thanks.

A Challenge, But Really Fun and Rewarding. Took advantage of the St. Patrick's Day sale to purchase the new crocuswood traditional flute, and I'm delighted with this instrument. First, it's absolutely beautiful. Second, it's rewarding my efforts rather quickly. I'm actually a life-long reed player: principally clarinet with some alto saxophone work. Since retiring from my day job, though, I've thrown myself into practice and now regularly work on soprano, alto and tenor sax as well. I also committed myself to picking up and working on concert flute again. These experiences are very fresh including the embouchure and intonation work, especially on sax, so I expected some learning curve on the Irish flute. With the instrument, I also purchased Fintan Vallely's excellent Complete Guide to Learning the Irish Flute and have worked my way diligently through this. Some others have commented that this instrument is difficult to get a sound from, and these comments have come from experienced flute players. I don't know that it's difficult, but it is different and requires some embouchure adjustments. It's certainly not as easy as a concert flute, but I find that I'm getting some great sound after just these three months. Also, being a saxophone player, I find that the intonation is not so consistent as a concert flute or clarinet, but it is a challenge. I expect that intonation will improve greatly with a few more months. This is common when picking up a new saxophone, so this just appears to go with this instrument. Really enjoying this flute!

Great instrument for the price! My daughter is a high school junior and an avid flautist and she absolutely loved the Irish Flute I got for her for Christmas. The workmanship is excellent, it was shipped in time and packaged well to protect it. Even though her primary and backup flutes are metal, modern and more advanced she said she really enjoys the feel and tone of the wooden flute. As a hobbyist craftsman, I can see the quality of work done to make it as well. Thank you!
