First Irish Flute I was searching for my first Irish flute. After coming across the McNeela website and reviewing products, I decided to buy the New (Cocuswood) Irish Flute. It appeared to be a quality product and in my price range. I also ordered the maintenance kit and a book about playing the flute. They arrived well packaged and in short time. I am very impressed with the quality of the flute ( I play a concert (Boehm) flute now. I easily played notes the first time I tried. I know I have a huge learning curve ahead of me, but am looking forward to learning to play the Irish flute. I will not hesitate to buy again from McNeela Instruments. Thanks folks for my lovely flute!

I purchased this as my first wooden keyless flute coming from a silver concert flute and clarinet background. This is a very nice flute with a lovely tone and an excellent option for anyones first keyless wooden flute. There is a lovely finish on it and it is of really good quality. Cocuswood does not have the density of blackwood so I hope oiling the bore over time will close this up. It is quite light and dry when new and probably should be played in over a couple of weeks. It it important to grease the cork each time you play to ensure you do not damage the cork. The foam box is of good quality and my only observation is that it opens to 90 degrees and when you remove the flute, the box falls over as it is top heavy. With a slight re-design it could open to 180 degrees and this would be of real benefit. I purchased the maintenance kit and Flute tutor also and if you are new to wooden flutes, it is worth getting the complete package. This is a great company to deal with and delivery was excellent. My only regret was I could not get to the shop in person due to covid restrictions to purchase. Can't wait to visit when lockdown eases.
