Tuneable Polymer Practice Flute (TB021) by Tony Dixon

Excellent flute! Great for travel and learning the instrument. Since I keep it accessible it keeps the more delicate instruments from dings.

This is an an absolute must have if you are just starting out. It is a difficult instrument to play so it's nice to have a less expensive option to begin with. Having said that this flute is by no means cheaply made. It is very light but the sound is lovely and it can hold its own.

It has a good tone, but sadly the holes are too far apart for my small hands to be able to play, even with pipers grip. I will have to send it back.

This is a real instrument and I am very happy with it. I've been playing various whistles and flutes for my own enjoyment a long time. I ordered this 'plastic practice' flute so that I could carry around a flute with me and play anywhere if I want I had been carrying around one of my keyless flutes, assembled and sticking out of my backpack. I banged it into a doorway by accident - luckily no damage. A few days later though it's sound suddenly changed and I had to repair the flute. So much for that. I stopped carrying my flute around and started looking for a less expensive one. The Dixon flute sounds good. Like all flutes it has it's own personality but it is very responsive to adjustments in embouchure and I like it a lot. One touch that doesn't show well in the photo, are the two ivory (plastic) white rings; one at each end. They add a note of class to the instrument. This flute is well built and came in a good two part plastic box that works well to protect the flute in my bag. I wanted the flute to be in my knapsack but sticking out so I can just play it without opening the knapsack or the box. Even it's box is well made with attention to details. I put the bottom of the box into the top upside down. Now, the bottom of the flute is well protected from hitting the ground when I put the knapsack down; yet the top is uncovered and the flute can be easily pulled out. This flute is more than a 'student' flute. This flute is great for beginners but it's also great for those flute players that aren't practicing enough because their flute is taken apart every day and lives in a box. I've always left a keyed Irish flute and a keyless flute assembled on vertical stands in my living room so I can just pick one up and play as the mood strikes me. But now, on a nice day, between appointments, if I get a few minutes, I can play the flute where ever I am, or practice one of the new tunes I am constantly picking up.
