18" Non-Tuneable Bodhrán with Gig Bag
Sometimes it's best to go back to where it all began. This traditional 18" Irish bodhrán  is already a classic - the simple and pure provenance of its design means that the player can experience the joy of discovering this iconic Irish drum like the first bodhrán players.
The professionally handcrafted 18" goat skin bodhrán, by Paraic McNeela, is made with a hardwood shell and a single cross bar. It was one of the first styles of bodhrán Paraic ever made and is still close to his heart.

Hand-selected Goatskin
Taped for extended harmonics
Arm cut-out for comfortable playing

Amazing Service. Despite issues with postage costings, McNeela were incredibly helpful in quickly getting my bodhran to me in Australia (big shout-out to Aaron!). My new bodhran is fantastic - looks and sounds beautiful, great craftsmanship. Looking forward to my first gig with it next week!

Fantastic! Worth every minute of time spent researching to find McNeela. I decided to finally pursue my lifelong interest in learning to play the Bodhran and after months of researching those available chose McNeela for my 18" non-tunable. I appreciated the information in the videos on the site, the quality of the instruments, the care and instructional materials available and just simply the "feel" of McNeela and its folks. I ordered and it arrived 2 days ahead of schedule (5 instead of 7 days from Ireland to the US). It arrived in terrific packaging, in it's case with all the additional bits I had ordered and I happily started bashing away and have most every night since. The quality and sound of the Bodhran itself inspires me to keep practicing (even when I'm convinced the Irish drumming gene must have been left back with the home family in Cork for me!). But seriously, the information, the quality, the sheer pride and joy that go into the instruments are evident on the site the you do your research, and the quality when you receive your instrument. Buíochas le milliún! Imirt ar!

I'm loving mine. Only learning and playing it for myself right now, but it's been good. Just ordered a slightly longer beater (the ribbed beater on here), as while I don't have troubles hitting with the side nearer my wrist, if I try and hit with the side near my knuckles, I find myself whiffing completely. If I choke down, the problem flips to sometimes missing on the wrist side. I suppose technique could fix it, but a longer beater would probably better suit my large hands. Plus, that method of striking it is not really the usual way to play it, but why not add as many tricks to my toolbox as I can, right? Sounds great. Nice balance between quality and price. I suppose if I wind up getting even more into it, I might look at one of those tuneable ones, but if not, I'm sure this could carry me through wherever my curiosities take me.

This was a gift for a new student of the bodhran. Even at low skill levels this drum has a full sound that will encourage practice. Shipping was fast to the US. Thank you!
