The Gunpowder Plot Immersive Experience Reviews

4.6 Rating 2,236 Reviews
The actors and the experience were great fun and we all really enjoyed it. The VR at points was a little glitchy and the bar/restaurant was awfully understaffed - drinks took 45 mins from ordering and food had to be cancelled as it took so long. But the actual experience itself was great hence the 4 stars.

Hello I normally do not write and complain but after our experience or should I say suffering the Gunpowder plot yesterday afternoon I cannot but help but to write to you and give you some feedback. Hopefully you can adress some of the problems so other participants will have a better experience. We arrived on time and had a drink before hand. Our 4pm started with the introduction and then into to the first room ’the dungeon’. The little performance happened and the actors left and we were left in the ‘dungeon’ by ourselves for a long time on our own. Some of the participants started to feel a bit nervous. Finally, after approx 10minutes one of the actors came back in and said sorry for the delay “ there were some problems”… We continued and later on came to our first VR experience. My VR did not work at all I realised and raised my arm up as instructed (“you only need to raise your hand at anytime if there is a problem as we are monitoring you the whole time”) but after quite a while and no one coming to help me I shouted out for help and the actor came to me and said I had to change to another seat, which meant I had missed half of the VR experience. Then we came to the ‘pub’ and was told to enjoy a drink - but there was no one there to serve us. A young girl came after a wait again. During this interval half of the group left. I do not know why though but I can only assume due to lack of satisfaction. Further, the last VR experience did work but not 100% as from time to time a ‘computer screen’ image kept popping up saying something about error system on all of our VRs… The above is just about the actual event on the day and the lack of working equipment and staff. With regards to the actual story, under all critic. We went to ‘War of the Worlds’ event and thought it was good, hence we booked to give a similar experience to two other friends. All I can say that by the end we felt really embarrassed that we had brought them to this. Hence the overall experience with a very thin story line, delays and faulty equipment I feel I cannot ask my friends for the £90(!) we paid for each VIP ticket so I am now £180 out of pocket… and had a wasted afternoon. Last but not least the pizza we ordered was made with cheddar cheese and not with mozzarella which is the norm for pizzas and came about 10 minutes of the rest of the food… :-( Therefore we will not use ‘Layered Reality’ again, as it seems like you now think you can get away with ‘murder’ and charge a lot. Regards Lotta Sutton

PROS: Great acting, sets no bad, VR when it worked worked well, story made you think again about what we know about The Plot. CONS: Too many and too long waits outside of sets/at doors on occasions making group feel something had gone wrong, pauses in VR, especially grey blank screens interrupted the tension and jarred as did the waiting at doors, VR headsets did not always provide clear, good contrast video (sometimes lots of light bleed and pauses). Saying Tom Felton stars is disingenuous as he's only in the VR at the end for around 1min.

Feel this has been opened before it's ready. Vr far too glitchy. Missed first and second vr experiences because sets didn't work. Got the sense the actors were demoralised. Still at the editing stage.

The experience was very good, nice mix of actors and VR.. only disappointment was the unavailability of photos at the end as the machine tp print was broken and no alternative offered..

Thank you for a wonderful day. A truly memorable and fascinating experience made all the more real by locking possessions away at the beginning and allowing you to really immerse yourself and be transported back in time. A great package and we will thoroughly recommend. The actors were stunning and the virtual-reality effects exceptional.
