“The iWalk3 is great for freeing up your hands to carry things, do chores etc. It takes a few minutes to set it up correctly but once done I was quite confident from the go. Having hands free also makes stairs a lot less intimidating as you use the hand rail for extra security.
The compactness of the iWalk is also a benefit compared to the kneeling scooters that are quite large and much less manoeuvreable in smaller spaces.
Glad you provided the extra foam pad as my total ankle replacement (TAR) has meant I have a plastic cast that is open at the front to allow for swelling and the plastic tends to dig into the shin. The foam helps but it really needs something between the plastic and the shin (that would need the surgical team to add after the op that would still let the leg breathe etc) hence I wouldn't want to walk that far.
Minor criticism is that the foam on the inner thigh pad became unstuck after a few days which meant I had to use some adhesive - but since then it is fine and the overall build quality is very good.
I would thoroughly recommend the iWalk3”
“Really great to have the freedom to move around when non weight-bearing. Feels very stable and safe although, for added confidence I am using with walking frame as, sometimes, I was 'dragging' the iwalk and I was afraid I would overbalance. This allows me to move quite swiftly, adopting an almost normal gait- pleasantly surprised. Takes time to set up to suit the individual but instructional videos are excellent - really clear and work through stages step by step; would advise watching them through before trying to start any of the stages.”
“Wife had an ankle fusion on Tuesday ,came home Wednesday evening and was walking upstairs with the aid of her IWalk on Thursday. She has taken to it very easily ,is able to put it on herself so money we'll spent.”
“Unfortunately the crutch is too long from the knee to the groin and is impossible for me to walk with . I'm 5'10”, it's set at its shortest and impossible to fasten at top as the inside plastic piece is in my groin !”
“This is a really well-designed piece of equipment and it allows me to get around and use my hands. It doesn't completely replace crutches, but is a really useful addition to them.
It is most important to follow carefully all the excellent instructions and to make sure that the iWALK 3.0 is correctly set up and adjusted. Small adjustments make a big difference. It didn't take me long before I was walking confidently - it is important to relax and not look down!
Every now and again, I 'stub my i-toe' which leads to a quick hop. This is more likely to happen when walking on carpets or uneven ground. The first time this happened it felt awkward but I soon got used to it. The trick is to be as relaxed as possible and not to be tensed up - that way a quick hop and I have recovered. At no time have I even come close to falling.
At first my shin soon became sore where it was bearing my weight, but I took things steadily and, after about three or four days, the tenderness disappeared.
Please remember to keep the straps tight and go down stairs backwards - sounds peculiar but I soon got used to it. Take things gradually to become confident and try to relax. The iWALK 3.0 is so convenient and comfortable to use that I have to remind myself my injured foot is sticking out behind me and take care not to hit things with it!
For doing all manner of jobs around the house, cooking, washing-up, cleaning, ironing and suchlike, the iWALK 3.0 is absolutely ideal. But, best of all, I can carry a cup of tea or a glass of wine! Although it doesn't take long to put on and take off, I keep a pair of crutches beside the bed and another pair in the sitting room in case the doorbell goes or the cat wants out!
I expect to use crutches for about three months, maybe a bit longer. Assume 100 days. That means the iWALK 3.0 works out at less than £2.00 per day. This is really good value. Of course, I'll still have it if I ever need it again. And, it's really clever and fits either leg!
In conclusion the iWALK 3.0 is an absolute boon and I should not like to be without it.
Best wishes.
John”
“I haven't had my op and have been practicing at home. The video is very helpful on how to move around. My upper body strength is weak so this offers me a much better solution. I was really nervous about how I would move around. This has given me confidence to go ahead with the op.”
