Freeview Play Recorder FVP-5000T 1TB (Refurbished) Reviews

I haven't got round to using it yet which I must do. I bought it as a replacement for when the 5000T that I have now gives up as I like this particular box. I've given it five stars as it all looks as new and all the bits required are there so hopefully it will work, I'm sure it will

The condition of this Freeview Play recorder is excellent, as was the next day delivery. Setup was simple but it has proved slow to startup from the remote. The indicator light is almost invisible and made easier to see by inserting a piece of white paper underneath the centre of the player. While the remote does turn on both player and TV it doesn’t adjust the volume of the TV, simply grading the available volume on a scale of 0-20. So the TV volume sometimes has to be reset using the TV set’s own remote. It is disappointing that ITVX is not included, but that was clearly stated before purchase. I’m getting used to the differences between this player and the earlier YouView player which I used for several years. Unfortunately when the ITV Hub was changed to ITXV, my broadband provider ‘updated’ the YouView player to a much less competent player totally lacking in recording features. Having previously had a Humax set top box which worked on an old TV through the aerial, I was pleased to try this recorder. So far I’m pleased with it, but still learning how to get best out of it.

An excellent piece of equipment which appeared, to intents and purposes, to be new. Quite a leap forward from the T2 Fox with internet connectivity and a huge storage capacity, but very use to use once mastered. Great value for money.

It was bought to replace an older model which only recorded 2 programs at once whereas this one will record double that. It was sold as being 'refurbished' but what I received looks like a brand new one both in it's packaging and the condition of the actual recorder. I would certainly recommend anyone looking for a new Freeview recorder to buy one of these from Humax Direct

What a disappointment! After using a HDR-2000T for a number of years this product is a step backward. By far the biggest problem is that it's painfully slow to respond to commands and even when it does the sequence of operations clunks along. It feels as though it has a very under-powered processor that's struggling to cope. This is even worse immediately after it's taken out of standby when there's obviously a lot of processing going on in the background. There's no longer any 'Info' button on the remote but there is a Netflix button which is a waste of space for those of us that don't use Netflix. The organisation of the playlists is poorer. There is no longer the folder structure, removing the ability to reorganise the playlists by moving files between folders and/or creating new ones or editing names. Strangely separate buttons have been provided for play and pause, replacing the single button that toggles between the two - another wasted button that could have been used for 'Info'. An irritating feature is that when playback is paused the progress bar and play controls stay on the screen, blocking the bottom of the picture. The Freeview Play capability is also made very poor by the abysmal speed of response. It may be useful for those that don't have that built in to their TV. It's a pity it's not possible to record from Freeview Play but maybe there are copyright issues involved. Overall, If I'd had the opportunity to try this unit before purchase I would not have done so.
