I have experienced multiple hangs/freezing and was assured there is no design issue. The box was replaced and the same problems are just as prevalent on the new box, so it must be a design issue, probably software memory management.
I have a fix! Get a programmable power socket and set it to power off daily at a time when no recordings are likely to be set, e.g. 4am. Then set it to power on later, e.g. 6am. The only downside is the box automatically powers on fully when power is applied, so it will be left in the on state, not good for energy consumption. This can be overcome by using the auto off setting. Use it to power the box back down to standby after the power cycle, e.g. at 7am.
Vary the timings to suit but make sure you allow enough leeway for time zone changes in March and September.”
