“Was really disappointed with the finish of this item. The description stated walnut style wood. I expected the item to be wood, it is not it is just cheap laminate. The entire box and inlay (the playing board) is just cheap laminate. When I wrote my last review someone replied stating that the inlay was just laminated well it's not the whole thing is. Both the photos and description are deceptive. Would not purchase again and if it had not been so close to Christmas Iwould have sent it back.”

Dear Cath, the product description states that the board is walnut style wood with a printed board. We do have solid wood boards, and boards with marquetry inserts on the playing surface within our range, but due to the production costs on these they are more expensive. “This was a gift for my third son (he’s 28) - he was delighted with the high quality of the backgammon set and particularly mentioned that he appreciated the alternative game play suggestions included, which he’s enjoyed trying out. “The backgammon set is lovely; smooth wood, and the counters feel nice to the touch. However, the instructions don’t make any sense. I suspect they’ve been poorly translated from Greek. My husband and I are beginners and had to continually look rules up on the internet. This is obviously very disappointing.; I would like a written rule book.”

Dear Suzanne, Our boards are manufactured in a traditional workshop hence the not so polished translation of instructions. We will talk to the manufacturer to resolve this for the future. In the meanwhile we do have some comprehensive gaming instructions which I hope will help - we will also make them easier to find on our website.
