I am absolutely loving my new Evolution R255TBL+ Table Saw. My twenty year old table saw finally gave up the ghost, so after much research, I settled on this saw and I have not been disappointed. Out of the box, it was very well set up and accurate. The stand took me about 30 minutes to build, once I got my head around the instructions. The rip fence is nice and accurate and I like the system that holds it from both ends. I would definitely recommend this saw, and am also happy with the customer service I have received.

I bought this as an upgrade to the R255PTS and it's a much improved saw. The soft start is great so no more of the anxious clunk as the saw springs to life. The stop paddle likewise makes more sense and is located easily so no need to take your eye off the table. The real reason that I bought this however must be the rack and pinion side fence. This is an absolute dream to operate and saves so much setting up time. This truly is a fantastic feature and this is where the saw makes it's money. Straight out of the box, everything was pretty much accurate although building up the stand took a while and the instuctions were not very clear. This was marketed as being a re-design from the ground up and still I think Evolution could have done better. For a start, the push stick has an onboard storage where it pushes through a slot in the front face of the saw. When stowed, there is very little tension holding the stick and it vibrates around when the saw is running. I also found that the stowage is too close to the edge of the machine so that the push stick sits directly behind the grip on the tubular frame and interferes with your knuckles. In my opinion, it could have been mounted slightly further inboard so as to provide better hand clearance when lifting the saw. The riving knife, I like the way it is quickly attached and removed however it sits so far above the height of the blade that it makes rebating/ trench cutting impossible. This is definately a negative from the previous models however I have just seen this week that Evolution have brought out a new shorter riving knife. Although this came out shortly after my recent purchase of the saw I'm guessing the issues here were already known about! When you come to building the saw from the instruction manual you will see that there are different types of dust ports. There's a dual port adaptor allowing you to connect to your dust extraction system and there is also an elbow joint dust port adaptor allowing you to place a bucket beneath it and collect the waste that way. Both are easily interchangeable. What a great idea but depending on which model of saw that you buy, only one is supplied. It was mentioned in marketing advertisements that the saw can easily be mounted / dismounted from the trolley frame by the use of four bolts. Well let me tell you the bolts are thin, long and fiddly and I wouldn't have confidence in them if you intended to go through this operation too often. In fact, I would have liked to have seen a better arrangement for fixing and removing the saw from the trolley frame. Perhaps some locator pins and latches or almost anything here would be an improvement. Overall, the positioning of the push stick and saw to frame attachement issues are minor. Anyway, I have had a bit of a play around and ran some 18mm plywood through the saw. It performs well and I am very pleased with my purchase so far. Out of the box, I would have preferred if it came with the shorter riving knife and the elbow dust extraction port but I have since learned that these can now be purchased separately from Evolution. You'll need to contact Customer Services direct for the dust extraction ports as they do not feature on the website. I have always admired the reliability and durability of my Evolution power tools which have well outlasted similar other branded tools and you definately get value for your money. The table saw has a quality feel to it and if past performance is any indication I look forward to many years of trouble free use from it. As I started out by saying, 'it's a much improved table saw', but it could be better and for what else is out there on the market this saw can rightfully hold it's head high.
