I broke the original throat plate, and bought the zero clearance throat plate as a replacement. If I had known how much better this part was I would have bought one before I broke the original. The rigidity of the zero clearance throat plate makes a world of difference.

As a still novice table top saw DIY user I've not had any problems using the default plastic throat plate supplied with the Rage5-S table saw. But using the zero clearance plate was recommended to me by more experienced users as a beneficial upgrade. The aluminium throat plate seems well made (flat) and the plastic zero clearance insert OK too. Worth mentioning that the insert is being held in partly by plastic tabs but also the plate locking screw itself. I noticed one earlier, critical, review where I suspect the user did not realise that and had broken some of the tabs as a result of thinking it was a snap in/out insert. The first matter is that throat plate does not sit properly level in the saw table-top recess. If you adjust the grub screws in each corner you can improve it to a, just, acceptable point but it is certainly not perfect. In my case the corners are all fine but to the left of the saw blade the side of the throat plate stands slightly proud of the table top in the middle. That's when the right side and all four corners are acceptably level. I'm only talking about a millimetre or two but it should be better. It can't be easily fixed by using thin shims, tape etc I actually have two of these plates and the problem is identical in both cases. Consequently I'm sure the cause is not the plate but the manufacturing of the plate receiving recess in my table top. Second problem is one reported by other users too when trying to cut the zero clearance insert. A 255mm/10" saw blade simply cannot be lowered low enough so that it doesn't foul the underside of the insert. That is with the moulding underneath clear of all sawdust build up and the blade cranked down as hard as possible. This issue is important because it present a danger. With the plastic insert bowed up, because it is already in contact with underside of the insert, starting the saw will, sometimes, rip the insert out of the throat. Even when it doesn't do that I have found some blades won't cut as you raise them. They just push it up more and the friction results in the plastic melting rather than cutting. Not good. I had a look at this and the problem actually appears to be a niche geometric/mechanical one with specific blades. In this case I was using the Evolution 255mm/10" 60T 2.4mm Fine Wood one. What I found is that when a tooth is top dead centre it does foul the underside of the insert bowing it up by 3mm - 4 mm and that is what appears to cause the trouble. This is also exacerbated by the plastic insert's manufacture information pressings effectively increasing the height of the insert in line with the blade. Possibly if you could set the gap between the saw teeth of this blade top dead centre the problem might not occur but I'm not convinced. The solution is quite simple and that is to use only the originally supplied 255mm/10" 28T 2.0mm Universal blade to cut the zero clearance insert. Because of its design with less teeth, wider and lower gaps between the teeth it simply doesn't foul the insert unless, unluckily, one of the teeth is top dead centre which is unlikely. It cuts through very cleanly with no problems except everything being sprayed in shards of black plastic. The Fine Wood blade with the wider 2.4mm teeth kerf can then be fitted and as the body of the blade is the same width as the Universal one it is easy to raise it through the 2mm slot and then spin up the table saw to cut it slightly wider. That's all I have to say about the plate and zero clearance insert but it shouldn't need saying that these issues would be better fixed by design changes and tighter tolerances in the manufacture of the table saw itself.

Far better than some reviews would have you believe.well finished well made well packaged. My previous insert was home made and eventually split. This is far better than the cheaper 3d printed versions and should last life of saw.
