“I usually use Elta MD mineral suncreen but find that, although it does a great job when it comes to sun protection, it makes my face very shiny (even though I have dry skin) and also the tinted version is a bit dark for me (light/medium skin). So I'd been keen to try this for a while and got some as soon as it was back in stock. This is way more like a make up/foundation that the Elta md: it blurs/covers more and I don't really feel like I need anything else on top of it for a daytime look (I'm in my 40s). It is also more matt that the Elta MD, which some people will like and some won't. Personally, I use a bit of highlighter over it on my cheeks. All in all, I would definitely keep re-purchasing if it wasn't for the fact that the tube is both relatively small and expensive in comparison to other brands. As other people have said over and over in the reviews, it's just not cost effective when you work out how often you'd have to buy it. Having said that, I guess the company isn't going to put the price down when it regularly sells out - just a shame that this isn't an everyday option affordable to all. So - good product, bad price!”
“I really love so much about this sunscreen- it makes my skin look polished and fresh and doesn’t clog pores. My only issue is it irritates my eyes. I am very sensitive to sunscreen so this is no surprise but if you don’t have issues, this would be my holy grail.”
“Not had this product long, but very impressed so far. Just enough coverage, even though I have mature skin, perfect for our lockdown days with a short spells outside. I want to try the Serum next.”
“The good:
- The 01 tint works matches my very fair skin very well - something I've never had happen before with a tinted spf.
- Doesn't irritate my skin, which is sensitive to almost all spfs (though it does bother my eyes if I put it on my eyelids, like Dr. Sam does in her demo)
- Doesn't dehydrate my skin, which tends to happen when I wear an spf with inorganic/mineral filters.
- I bought the untinted product when it originally came out (when there was problem with the formula pilling. The company's service was great and they quickly refunded me). It doesn't pill anymore.
The bad:
- The shine: MY GOD, the shine. The finish in the pictures on the website looks so lovely - glowy, satiny, perfecting... On me, this looks greasy. Not a flattering, dewy kind of glow, but like my face is sweating and is downright wet (because, well, it is). It highlights my texture and large pores. I've tried applying different products under it, applying nothing under it, waiting long between the two layers... Nothing has made it look good.
- The price: 33 gbp is a lot for a product that I with once daily usage would go through in less than a month (applying the correct amount to face and neck). Particularly when you consider that spf should be reapplied frequently, and not just once daily.
- It never fully sets on me and transfers if I happen to touch my face.
- The pump. I actually love the idea of a pump measuring out the correct 6 pump dose for me (normally I would just use a 1/4 tsp to measure). However, the amount of product released by the pump isn't consistent: It often pumps out nothing, which isn't such a big deal. But it also often pumps out half-empty or nearly empty "doses" which makes the measuring system pretty useless.
All in all, this was such a disappointment. On paper this seemed perfect for my sensitive and combo skin, but it just didn't work for me. I clearly appear to be in the minority of people for whom this didn't work. I hope it works better for you.”
“I held off buying this product because of the price but I’m so glad I tried it. It Blends beautifully and does not irritate my/my husband’s skin, nor does it cause breakouts. The tint blurs small imperfections, personally I just need the tint 2 please for my yellow skin tone. Will buy again and highly recommend!”
“This is the first tinted SPF product I have tried and loved. It protects against sun damage as well as evening out my skin tone, leaving me feeling confident without having to put makeup on.”
“The product is good ...no complains but to get the product out of the pump dispenser is hard. I just got mine and gave up trying. I'm so rushed in the morning that to me is a mission just trying to get the product out of the pump dispenser. Other than that, it is good. Probably I wont buy it again unless the product bottle changes.”
“I'll cut to the chase, it makes my makeup go cakey, it's too pale and doesn't provide any coverage.
I'm a huge fan of Dr Sam and her products so I'm gutted that gossamer doesn't deliver.
It is a better version than the one released back in 2020, it's no longer patchy so application is flawless.
However, shade nr 1 is quite pale (if not a white cast) and it settles into the wrinkles around eyes like a poor quality concealer. Most importantly, it somehow manages to separate makeup and 'elevate it', making pores even more prominent. I tried different applications with fingers and beauty blender but it didn't make any difference.
My skincare routine includes: dr Sam's wash and moisturiser + brightly serum + sunscreen (Elta MD tinted is still the one) + Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.”
