Burnhills give excellent and tireless service and advice. No criticism there. However, the Galvanized Treadle Feeder is a disappointment. It doesn’t quite serve the purpose for which it was purchased. For some inexplicable reason I find good amounts of spilt hen pellets under the treadle each morning.

Good feeder. Good value. Using it for ducks.

This is great for feeding only the chickens and not the visiting rodents

Does exactly as it should. Chickens were nervy at first, ex battery, but now they are very happy. Ducks went straight in and I'm happy as I don't have to refill too often.

It took my three hens about a week to get used to as they were scared of it! With lots of encouragement and treats they eventually got the hang of it. First left a rock on the ramp and put treats in a bowl on the ramp. Then moved the bowl closer to where the food comes out. Then removed the rock. Then eventually removed the bowl of treats. They were scared of the moving ramp and also the sound it makes when they step off the ramp. After all that, it is a great product and there is no feed spilled during feeding. Easy to top up and most importantly haven't seen a rat since! Very entertaining watching them 'taking turns' at the feeder. Only suggestion would be to make the sound of the feeder closing a bit quieter (so they are less frightened initially). And to offer more advice in the leaflet or with a link to a YouTube clip on how to train nervous chickens to use the feeder.
