Xoriguer Gin, Gin de Menorca Reviews

5 Rating 377 Reviews
Read Basco Fine Foods Reviews

A cult gin from Mahon in Menorca, Xoriguer is one of the only gins in the world, alongside Plymouth, to hold a geographical indication, Gin de Menorca. This gin, pronounced sho-ri-gair, was first created for British sailors stationed on the island between 1708 and 1802. Xoriguer is still made using traditional copper stills and high-quality wine alcohol (eau-de-vie), along with carefully selected juniper berries from nearby Mediterranean mountains and aromatic herbs. The herbs, a guarded secret of Xoriguer gin's original bouquet, are added at the start of each distillation process. The respect for tradition is such that the fuel still used today in the distillery remains unchanged.

My wife loves this Gin and we have fond memories of visiting the distillery in Mahon. I bought this for her birthday as we have been unable to travel recently, so thought this would make a nice change. Price was fair and delivery very fast. The packaging was also very substantial and (important for a birthday surprise) didn't look like a bottle - great!

We have been drinking this Gin for many years and is full of juniper flavours. The best we have ever tried. One off taste experience. The service from Basco was excellent from start to finish.

Beautiful gin that glides me back to the hills surrounding Soller - with herby and juniper aromas and mixed with a bitter-sweet lemon sparkler rather than tonic - as the sun goes down over the port: bliss.

A little taste of sunshine - whilst waiting for our trips back to Menorca. Just won best gin in a martini award - but try it with fresh lemon twist, rosemary & Med light tonic
