Pacharan Azanza is a delightful sloe-flavoured liqueur, hailing from the Basque Country and other regions in Spain. Its name derives from the Basque words paitar or pattar, meaning liqueur, and aran, signifying sloe. This traditional beverage is created through a maceration of sloes, the fruit of the blackthorn, with anisette, an aniseed-flavoured liqueur. The result is a warming and refreshing liqueur with a pronounced aniseed taste. Bodegas Pacharan Azanza, established since 1810, is a small, family-owned company renowned for producing some of the finest pacharan. Their product holds an I.G.P. designation, ensuring its authenticity and traditional production methods. Serve Pacharan Azanza chilled or on ice as a digestif, or incorporate it into a cocktail with white or sparkling wine. It can also be drizzled over fresh berry fruits and vanilla ice cream for a delectable dessert. This product contains 70cl and has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 25%.

I have to confess to being a big patxaran fan. I had never seen this one before and - though a litle more expensive than usual - took a punt. It is a great drink, a little less sweet and cloying and with a more pronounced flavour of sloes than some more commonly available brands. And it even has a handful of sloes in the bottle. Highly recommended.
