Iberico Pork Cheeks, Free-Range, Lean, Rich in Acorn Flavour, 0.8Kg, Spanish, Grass Fed Reviews

4.9 Rating 127 Reviews
Read Basco Fine Foods Reviews

Iberico pork cheeks are a unique cut of pork meat, being quite meaty yet surprisingly lean. The pork meat is deep red in colour and is exceptionally rich and full of flavour. They come from the free-range Iberico black pigs that wander the countryside of Southwestern Spain, feasting on sweet acorns. Iberico Pork is traditionally known as Carrillera Iberica and has the unique benefit of being a lean healthy pork meat without losing the acorn flavoured fat that gives it such a rich taste. Our pigs are ethically reared using entirely natural farming methods, living most of their lives outdoors and getting plenty of exercise in the ancient dehesa habitat, where they eat grass, herbs and lots of sweet acorns.

Very succulent! I did these with garlic and thyme, salt and pepper on the BBQ. Looking forward to braising some next.

The parcel arrived a day later than it should have and was just starting to defrost any longer and it would have been beyond saving. The pork cheek was really good quality and when cooked was amazing.

We are in isolation and bought the cheeks for our raw meat eating dogs. They enjoyed it and would probably thoroughly recommend it.

Fantastic quality meat, made the sherry braised pork cheeks with garlic mash from the website which turned out fabulously. I will definitely order again.

Tasted delicious but I was a little surprised about how much I had to trim off. When I buy pork cheeks locally they come prepared. Lost a bit of weight, and I don’t think I was over fussy about removing fat! Flavour lovely though.

Hi Julie, thank you for your review. Yes, iberico pork is a little more fatty than other breeds of pork. The pigs graze, free-range, on acorns in the dehesas of Extremadura and in their final weeks put on quite a lot of weight, this fat has not only many of the beneficial properties of olive oil but also a lovely, sweet, nutty succulence which is one of the unique features of this pork. As no doubt you found, cooking pork cheeks long and slow means that the fat renders down into the sauce giving a lip-smacking unctuousness that is anything but greasy.

Fantastic service, got a phonecall to say that my delivery didn't go out due to heavy number of orders, but was upgraded to Saturday delivery. Appreciated the phone call! Pork cheeks excellent, only not a 5 rating because of the big difference in size between some of the cheeks.
