A great idea but very disappointing in practice. I bake my sourdough bread in an earthenware casserole dish 20cm dia. or a cast iron casserole 23cm dia. (20cm at the bottom). My loaves are 500g. Difficult to get the bread mat and dough to drop down, straight, to the bottom of the pots and because the mat is silicone and bigger diameter than my pots, it's a tight fit even with these smaller loaves. The mat formed itself into tight soft folds around the dough, distorting the shape of the loaves once cooked. Because the "handles" have to be folded inside the lids, the loaves did not brown evenly, and caution must be used when removing the loaves from the pots because the handles are very hot. Very disappointed with this purchase - at £27.71 for the 2-pack, an expensive mistake.

Hi Jacqui, The BreadMat Long One is 23cm in diameter so using it in a smaller vessel will mean that it will have some folding in order to make it fit. Does your earthenware casserole dish or your cast iron casserole have a flat top? If so you can flip it over and bake using the bottom as a lid which should help the bread mat to fit better. The handles can be left out of the vessel whilst baking as they are flexible enough to sit between the lid and base.
