“How things escalate. I was given a small book for Christmas by my family on Sour Dough Bread. After a few attempts, I realised that kneading by hand is awkward in my kitchen with small worktops, and makes my old shoulder ache. I did try our Magmix (which is great for many things) but kneading dough it does tend to walk around the worksurface and doesn't do a great job of kneading, and has limited capacity.
So I investigated getting a mixer and came across the Ankarsrum. I decided to treat myself and ordered one. It took a few weeks to arrive as I wanted a specific colour and had to wait for it to come into the country (I was aware of this when I ordered). Service for Bakery Bits was great, I have used before and since. No complaints at all.
The mixer is wonderful, easy to set up and use. It doesn't walk across the table. I particularly like that the motor is under the bowl and not part of the arm like more conventional mixers.
I am still getting to grips with making Sour Dough bread, but the mixer makes it a lot easier, now it is more on how long to leave proving. I also have made Japanese Milk bread which seems to be a winner with the family.
I also purchased the ice-cream maker and have made a coffee ice cream (recipe care of Ben & Jerrys) which was a hit. Will make more in the summer.
In conclusion a £10 book, probably from a garden centre, led to an expensive purchase of several hunderd pounts. But so far I am not regretting it at all. Love the mixer.”
