Angus tailor made a hiking package and organised a guide to accommodate my dates and wishes. It was a great experience. Hikes were in the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve and the Kogelberg Reserve - views and flowers, especially fynbos were stunning. My guide, Frank, was very knowledgable and an interesting person to spend time with. He also acted as driver and ‘chef’ at an overnight stay in an eco cabin (Oudebosch). He prepared a delicious braai for supper, complete with salads and baked sweet potato (I would definitely recommend staying here for 2 nights). Weather prevented our planned hike in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve and Frank presented various options for ‘plan B’ and we had a good day despite high winds and hail! Sadly, I only had a few days but left with wonderful memories.

We recently returned from our fourth trip to Africa designed especially for us by Angus. It was perfect! We had rather strange requests, like seeing lots of Namibian and South African rock art, hiking a bit, eating healthy food, and having Bruno Nebe as our guide. Because Angus and Bruno are such friendly people and have such amazing connections to people in Namibia we were given access to private lands where rock art seldom seen by tourists was made available to us. Since Bruno is fluent in English, German, Afrikaans and many local languages he could instantly make friends with land owners who then guided us to private rock art sites, explained the art and culture for us and then invited us to tea. This was totally different from the typical Land Cruiser game drive trip! And we had lovely meals, cooked by Bruno, matching our preferences which we had communicated to Angus. These included fresh vegetables, bread baked by Bruno, fish for me and steak for my husband, fresh frozen pineapple slices (Quite a treat in the desert!). Angus also had great recommendations of hotels, restaurants and sights to visit. And Angus is a great communicator; he answers emails very quickly, responds to details, and is very sensitive to our wishes about types of travel and accommodations. We like sleeping on the ground, no tent, cooking over a campfire, but we also like a grand hotel with excellent service and a hot shower now and then. We ended our trip with four days in Cederberg, which we knew nothing about but Angus had recommended. It was a high point of a marvelous trip! We stayed in a comfortable chalet with our guide Rob, hiked daily to excellent rock art sites and amazing rock formations, ate great food cooked by Rob, and had beds and hot showers! My husband is a photographer and the whole trip was designed to give him lots of opportunities to take pictures. Both guides were very sensitive to his desire to stop frequently to take pictures and they and Angus set an itinerary that provided lots of great pictures.

This was the best adventure hike I have ever been on. Angus with his attention to detail, Zee our guide , strong caring informed, Geoff our lead porter couldn't fault and finally Zena our driver. We felt safe . The plateaux , the nomads, the vultures, baboons, eland , cycads . What can I say Epic. David Higgins

We are just back from an absolutely wonderful walking holiday in South Africa. After a couple of days enjoying Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula, we enjoyed a week's hiking in the incredible Cederberg, staying in superb accommodation at Kromrivier and with our fantastic guides Frank Dwyer and Ray Leverson. We followed this with something very different, walking the Green Mountain Trail based out of the superb Wildekrans guesthouse. Throughout our trip, we stayed in wonderful accommodation with welcoming and helpful hosts and enjoyed great food, great wines and the very best company. Angus at Walks in Africa was critical in planning this holiday with us and took lots of time to understand our needs and make suggestions. I feel sure that we will be doing another walking holiday with you soon.

We're just back from a fantastic 4 week trip to South Africa including a 170km walk along the Drakensberg escarpment from Sentinel Peak to the Sani Pass. The route was just so spectacular and we didn't see another tourist until we arrived at the highest pub in Africa on the Sani Pass. Zee, our Zuku lady guide was great and she and the porters belting out Nkosi Sikelel' above a sea of clouds on South Africas' highest peak was quite something. Everything was perfectly organised by Walks in Africa including two resupply trips. This is the third time we have used Walks in Africa and every time has been brilliant - Angus' attention to detail is spot on, nothing is left to chance.

Walks in Africa created an outstanding four-part trip combining trekking, wildlife viewing, and relaxation. We started at the Cavern Resort for a few day hikes and great meals. Then we did our 15-day Drakensberg trek covering 100 miles of fantastic scenery and clear skies of stars and the Milky Way. Next, we relaxed at the Moorcroft Lodge and Oyster Box, both wonderful rooms, views, and meals. Finally, we did 4 days of safaris at the fantastic Leopard Mountain Lodge in the Manyoni Reserve: cheetahs, lions, hippos, rhinos and other mammals; numerous bird species including owls and eagles; and wonderful & warm people providing various services.

We had the most fantastic holiday to Zambia arranged by Angus Maclaren. Angus has a wealth of knowledge and understanding of Africa and put together a brilliant itinerary going through every detail with us to ensure we were happy. It was the trip of a lifetime for us and we thoroughly recommend Walks in Africa to anyone considering a trip. Thank you!

Just home from 3 weeks in Namibia - the 3rd holiday that Angus organised for us. As usual Angus's knowledge about the area and his attention to detail was second to none. This Namibian holiday was a really good mix of walking/camping and the occasional comfortable lodge. We are keen walkers and we enjoyed 3 very different multi day walks. the highlight for us was the Tok Tokkie trail in Namib desert. Angus has previously organised trips for us in South Africa and Botswana. All very different but equally memorable. thanks again Angus, we had the best time.

Just back from 3 weeks along the 'Garden Route' arranged by Angus --- Our first trip with Walks in Africa and we would fully recommend them to anyone! We wanted a combination of outdoor activities, sightseeing and quality/atmospheric accommodation. Angus has excellent local knowledge and contacts with very good guides and service providers. He was flexible and responsive in combining his suggestions with some of our specific requests and ideas and very good at communicating everything throughout the booking process. Our final very personalised programme included: some hiking (in the Cape and Green Mountain Trail (GMT)): Golf at Fancourt, a short Safari stay and plenty of opportunities for sightseeing, etc. The guides (Frank in the Cape and Andreas+Patrick GMT) were great company and the accommodation/service/hospitality throughout the trip was consistently very good despite at times the inconvenience of S Africa's daily power outages. Many thanks again Angus!

We have just returned from a fabulous 3 week holiday in South Africa, organised by Angus. From the very start he has been most helpful in organising our schedule. He listened to what we wanted and organised our trip accordingly. He is extremely efficient and replies to any queries very promptly. We loved all the accommodation that he arranged, including The Retreat, in the middle of nowhere. 14 km on a dirt road to find it. The highlight of our holiday was our stay at the Gorah elephant camp. Truly amazing.

We love Angus and Walks in Africa! This was the third trip Angus has arranged for us and, as usual, all the details were perfect. This was our first trip to Zambia and we followed the itinerary Angus proposed. It was excellent; Angus really listens to requests and suggested areas we found very interesting. And the guides he connected us with were amazing! Bruno in Namibia is one of the most caring, intelligent and congenial people I have every met and he seemed to enjoy creating special adventures for us. Petroglyphs, tons of petroglyphs! No other people! And we found excellent camping spots every night and great photographic possibilities every day. And Jason on the mobile walking safari was wonderful; this was our third adventure with him. And we'll probably be back! Angus arranged for covid testing for us and then arranged great adventures when testing was no longer required. He set up logistics so that there were no risky connections, we had enough time to meet all of our planes, boats and drivers. We stayed in really excellent small lodges when we were not camping and Angus recommended lovely small restaurants. And he gave us great advice on clothing and weather. He was able to ensure that our dietary needs were met: no onions, vegetarian, extra food for my husband, no G&T (but some on hand, just in case!). And the staff was able to handle problems (no brakes in a truck, clogged fuel line in a different truck) and provide entertainment for us at the same time. Everyone was friendly, happy, helpful and talented. And Angus is already planning our next trip!

Another great trip to South Africa organised by Angus, this time walking in the Cederberg, Tierkloof and Kogelberg areas and superbly guided by Frank, Mike and Charl. Their local knowledge really added value to the trip - Franks knowledge of South African wines was pretty useful too..... I can really recommend South Africa as a walking destination. The Cederberg especially has some tough but spectacular trails and most days we never saw another person. As usual the whole trip was superbly planned by Angus - his attention to detail meant that everything went very smoothly.

Angus organised a 6 day, 5 night hiking trip in the Northern Drakensberg for myself and my daughter, followed by a tour of the Zulu and Boer war battlefields and a safari for myself and my husband. The whole trip was meticulously organised and the level of detail provided before the trip filled me with confidence. I wasn’t disappointed. Angus recommended and booked a fabulous guide for our trek - Zee with her team of porters and a cook. This was our first time camping and we both thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely do another camping trip. Waking up in such majestic surroundings and knowing that we were not going to see anyone else was magical. Following the hiking trip we met up with my husband at Three Tree Hills lodge. This was a fabulous recommendation from Angus - one of the best places I have stayed. My daughter then returned to the UK and we continued our holiday with a stay at Fugitive’s Drift and then Phinda game reserve. Both were excellent places - we very much enjoyed the battlefields tours and saw all the big 5 at Phinda. I cannot recommend Walks in Africa enough. The planning and attention to detail was superb and we had a memorable holiday. A great way to celebrate turning 60!

My brother and I used to hike in the Drakensberg as kids, but it has been a few decades since we did that and we now live in the UK, so we asked Angus to arrange our hike. He had several excellent suggestions, and once we had settled on one of them, the trip was arranged. There was plenty of helpful information - he thought of everything. The hike itself was magical. 3 days in the glorious Drakensberg, sleeping in caves, swimming in the rivers. We saw kudu, mountain reedbok, a klipspringer, baboons and signs of many other animals (otter, dassies etc). The guide arranged by Angus was excellent - he knew what he was doing and had plenty of experience. This is a brilliant and safe way to see one of the most beautiful places on earth. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

I have long wanted to spend several days trekking in the Drakensberg, but I was on my own. First time in South Africa, so I was anxious about getting to the destination, quality of guides and security issues. Angus reassured me in all aspects. Walks in Africa were tremendous with their attention to detail. I was left with no ambiguities, so that when I arrived I knew exactly what I needed to do. The guiding was excellent and from a qualified guide (unlike so many). I had a lot of questions. Angus had the patience to answer all of them and made my trip highly memorable for all the right reasons. No hesitation to recommend.

Walks in Africa prepared a 19 day itinerary in S Africa based around a 6 day supported trek through the Drakensberg Mts. The team was fantastic, led by ~ee, a larger than life Zulu lady guide and her team of Zulu porters and cook. Lovely people and spectacular scenery - now wishing we'd done the whole Drakensberg Traverse. Following the trek we had a couple of days in the area of the Zulu and Boer wars battlefields. Another great guide to the battles of Isandlwala and Rorkes Drift - his great grandfather had fought at Isandlwala. Then on to Imfolozi reserve for some game viewing including a couple of days wilderness walking camping at Mpila - a great experience and the bush knowledge of the guides is quite amazing. Highly recommended. The trip finished in the Manyoni reserves and the luxurious Leopard Mountain Lodge where a pride of lions walking between the chalets added some extra excitement. I cannot thank Walks in Africa enough. They have been great from the beginning - everything they suggested worked out spectacularly. Post covid travel in S Africa is very easy - we're already planning our next visit.

Angus at Walks in Africa was instrumental in creating the itinerary for a 'holiday of a lifetime'. He put forward many recommendations and ideas which really enhanced the whole experience. We cannot thank him enough for suggesting a visit to the Gorah Elephant Camp at Addo. Absolutely fantastic. The holiday comprised walking in the Cederberg Mountains, Cape Town and a tour of the Garden Route to Addo. Would highly recommend Walks in Africa to anyone thinking of travelling to this part of the world.

Our group did a guided Drakensberg Mini Traverse. It was wonderfully arranged from start to finish. The traverse was customized by Walks in Africa to suit our abilities and desires to perfection. All accommodations and transfers, arranged by , were high quality and well organized. Our guide was a dedicated veteran who was knowledgeable and engaging. It was a pleasant experience from the preplanning stage all the way to completion. We highly recommend Walks in Africa.

My party of walkers thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Everything worked very well and all arrangements were first class and on time. Our two guides in the Cederberg mountains looked after us very well during our sometimes challenging rock scrambling and producing some great meals in the evenings. I’d have no hesitation in recommending Walks in Africa to any if my friends. Thank you for a memorable holiday Ann

As experienced travellers we usually travel independently but we recognise there are some holidays in which specialist travel advice is required. Our Wilderness Trail hike and ascent to the Amphitheater in the Drakensberg were such and we were delighted to find Angus, who apart from the bookings, the provision of guides et cetera was also a mine of information as to other aspects of our trip and accommodation ideas. We would heartily recommend him !.
