Fantastic trail and it felt a little bit like a survival course at times, with the elements we experienced. Getting chased by a hippo and a black rhino, crossing a swollen river after the downpour, and watching a pack of wild dogs rip apart an Impala were some of the highlights. The park was filled with White Rhino and although we didn't see any wild cats, we certainly heard them at night. A word of caution, if you are expecting a 'Walking Safari' you will be disappointed as this is more of walking trail whereby we walk a set path and any wildlife we see is a bonus. I would definitely recommend it to others. A once in a lifetime experience and superb value for money, considering especially all the detailed support 'Walks in Africa' gave us.

From the moment I spoke to Angus I knew we had found someone who understood our requirements. Our itinerary was planned meticulously and the resulting walking safari in Zambia exceeded all expectations. The Robin Pope mobile walking safari really was the experience of a lifetime, we were guided by Kanga who was amazing.

At very short notice Angus designed a perfect package for our sadly all too short trip - walking in the Drakensbergs and a battle field tour. All the arrangements worked perfectly and everything (accommodation, guides etc.) was of the highest quality. We would not hesitate to recommend him and we will definitely use him again when we return.

Our trip was extremely well planned with the right amount of hiking ( 3 days up to the Amphitheatre in the Drakensbergs ) wilderness walking (3 days in the Imfolozi Reserve in the animals' domain) luxurious safari drives (3 days in Phinda Game Reserve) and finally 3 nights at the very remote and comfortable Thonga Beach Lodge. Just the right amount of physical exercise at the start of the trip to make us feel that we had earned the comfort of Phinda and Thonga. Christeen, our guide in the Draks, was excellent, being very knowledgable about the flora and fauna of those parts as well as being a Primitive Art Custodian which enabled us to visit rock art sites. We set out from the Cavern Hotel at the foot of the Draks which was a delightful and picturesque step back in time with beautiful gardens and thatched roofs. The Witeschoek Lodge higher up where we stayed for 2 nights was comfortable and friendly with stunning views all round. It was an easy 5 hour drive to Imfolozi from near Howick where we overnighted in a delightful farmhouse. From Mpila Camp Imfolozi we hiked into the bush with 2 armed rangers, crossing a muddy river to reach a tented campsite which was rather more comfortable than we had been expecting--good food and tales around the camp fire with the rangers helped us sleep well ready for a good days hike further into the Reserve. Although we did'nt see that many animals up close we were able to learn about spoor, plants and animal habits--we also visited a stunning overlook and ate lunch in a large cave just beyond a bushman art niche. We thoroughly enjoyed being on foot in the bush in the animals' environment. From there Phinda and Thonga were touches of very comfortable quarters with excellent food and service all round--we were able to view the Big 5 and our Phinda Guide Matt is highly recommended for his knowledge and good humour. Thonga Beach enabled us to take a break from early rises, to swim in the Indian Ocean, to enjoy a lake side sundowner and to walk some of the glorious 10 mile beach. Well done Angus to arranging such a varied and well planned and thought through itinerary--it was set up just as we had hoped it would be and delivered a memorable KZN holiday that we shall remember for a very long time.

Thank you for organising a fantastic trip to the Drakensburg - the most beautiful place and very friendly and knowledgeable guide and porters. Would highly recommend Walks in Africa to anyone thinking of doing this trip! RK

What an excellent trip! The organisation from Walks in Africa was perfect - it was very clear where we were meant to be when and also what we needed to still cover cost wise etc. Navigation instructions were also very clear. This was all very useful as I had no knowledge of the area I was going to visit, so having a pre-arranged itinerary was great. Rhino Ridge was stunning. The food, staff and accommodation was of a very high standard. The tours themselves were lead by very knowledgeable staff and we saw many animals. The park itself did not seem crowded or busy and the animals were not scared of us or overwhelmed. Wilderness Trails were exceptional - a truly wonderful experience to be able to camp in the bush with the elephants. The food cooked was delicious and again the guides were knowledgeable and entertaining. The tents were well kept and the camp generally was looked after - even the bucket shower was great! Thank you very much for such a great time - I will certainly be back to visit!

We asked Angus at Walks in Africa to devise a holiday for us that required accommodation, guides, travel arrangements and vital advise - he did all this for us with impeccable efficiency and came up with what turned out to be the perfect plan. We never once were given cause to doubt his trustworthiness from asking for ideas to finally making the payment. The holiday he put together for us was full of variety - game walks, battle fields and mountain treks. He certainly left us feeling we had had an excellent introduction to S Africa and leaving us wanting to return again one day. Ross

I am used to backpacker tours and for the first time I experienced a private tour. Much more personal attention, a good guide and most importantly a very good cook! They all made it the best mountain tour I've had so far..

Right from my first contact with Walks in Africa Angus was exceedingly proactive in responding to my many queries and providing suggestions for our trip. The planning and associated paperwork was meticulous and everything worked out perfectly. The trip itself was superb with accommodation suiting our requirements exactly. Our guide Zee really made the trip and showed us some wonderful sights. I will definitely be using Walks in Africa again myself and will highly recommend them to friends and family.

I did the Northern Drakensberg Traverse in mid march and had a wonderful time. From the moment I contacted Walks in Africa I was well taken care of. I got help with the transfer to and from Drakensberg, I had delicious vegetarian food during the trek and I truly enjoyed the company of cool zulu guide Zee and the porters. Add to that the beautiful landscape with new, marvellous views every day... I can highly recommend Walks in Africa.

Walks in Africa organised our trip to South Africa in March 2016. I simply cannot fault the company as absolutely everything was attended to. Airport transfers, hotels, rail journeys and specifically the advice we were given regarding which safari lodges to go to even to the recommendations of restaurants, places to see and things to do. Most impressive was the detail which Angus went into, nothing was missed or too much trouble. We have every intention on going back and simply wouldnt consider anyone else to arrange it for us.

Angus McLaren was absolutely key to the wonderful time we had in South Africa. From our first email encounter he was a wonderful gentle caring guide as to what we should do and where we should go. His choice of walks, sites, mountain guides and accommodation were perfect. Angus thank you for making our first trip to South Africa outstanding. Peter Stewart, Dublin.

We had such a fantastic holiday in the Drakensburg organised by Walks in Africa. The arrangements were seamless and Angus was extremely helpful and knowledgeable during the planning process. We met some amazing people and saw incredible things. All the accommodation was gorgeous, I thought we were going to be staying in a mountain cabin with a kerosene lamp but everything was luxurious and beautiful. I am not a natural traveller and something adventurous like this would normally be quite daunting, but I loved every minute and feel really inspired to go again on another trip with Walks in Africa.

Excellent attention to detail based on thorough research meant that the holiday went without a hitch and exceeded our expectations. Angus was a pleasure to deal with.

We had a fantastic trip to the Drakensberg. Everything was extremely well organised, the hotels were excellent, but most importantly the guides were knowledgeable, passionate about their work, and always so helpful. One of the best holidays I have had.

Angus organised a 4 week trip in South Africa for us and I would definitely use him again and recommend him without any reservations. His care, attention to detail and local knowledge were invaluable. He organised the perfect trip (and not very expensive either) and really responded to our requests for an varied and active holiday in KwaZulu Natal and the Cape. We went trekking (fully supported by porters) in the Drakensberg which was the real highlight and one of the best walking experiences I have ever had. His recommended route, the homestay, the local guide (Zee) and her team really could not have been better. The lodges he suggested and booked for us were all lovely and rather off the beaten track and he provided excellent written information, travel directions and suggestions for local activities. We had a lovely time with no disappointments at all.

Angus has passion. This means you get great service and insight from him. From the start Angus understood what we were after and he knows his onions (or should that be Biltong?). Dealing directly with the man who runs his own business means his success depends on your happiness. And we are very happy. Thank you for your advice time and attention, you have helped us over and above what I would have expected.

Angus Maclaren at Walks in Africa has put together a holiday itinerary for us every year since 2010, in fact, he organised 2 holidays for us in 2013. Angus does much of his research in person by visiting the locations that he subsequently advises upon. He uses only the best local agents to match the superb attention to detail in his own planning. Our most recent trip was to Botswana & Namibia and that was another fantastic holiday. As with all the others, the holiday went exactly according to plan and I can only say that it just gets better and better each time!

We took a large group of 80 teenagers on a tour of South Africa, organised by Angus and his team. The tour guides were great - they met us on arrival at the airport and were with us throughout our tour until we checked-in to the airport again on our return home. They were extremely well organised, very knowledgeable about the different places we visited and likeable - they instantly became a part of our team. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they played a huge part in making our tour so successful. Thank you!
