“I volunteered on the turtle conservation project in Lixouri, Kefalonia, Greece for two weeks. It was one of the most challenging, rewarding and unique experiences of my life so far! Alex from Pod Volunteer was very supportive and clear with the application process, and checked up on my progress in Greece as well which was really nice - I felt like I could ask any questions I needed to at any time. The work was not what I expected but a very honest insight into a conservation career - we volunteered long hours, in hot conditions, and cycling and walking for hours every day made it physically strenuous. But if you were willing to put in the effort it was incredibly rewarding and the challenge of it made me feel like I was making a real difference to the organisation's amazing conservation work. I will never forget the night surveys; these involved walking along the beaches from 10pm til 5:30am looking for nesting turtles, and I got to hold the shell of a beautiful female while her tags were checked and measurements taken. Walking for hours under the stars was surreal. I was also incredibly lucky to see hatchlings on my last day, despite it being earlier than usual hatchling season, and being able to hold a newly hatched turtle and watch it crawl to the sea was again a moment I will never forget. Overall, I would recommend this experience to anyone with a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard - it has convinced me that I want to pursue nature conservation as a career, I have made so many amazing memories, become stronger as a person and met friends for life! Thank you Pod for this opportunity!”

“They made the process super easy. I never had to wait long for an email response. Overall, my experience was good. My only concern was that I was under the impression I would have airport pickup, so that became a little bit more expensive than I thought in order to get connecting flights and hotels. However, it ended up working out great, so it wasn’t even a concern. It would have been nice though if that were more clear, so I could have budgeted better.”

“Volunteering in Pakhora Nepal, we were hoping that the whole trip would be an experience. The set up regarding both the street kids and orphans was very well run and it was a pleasure to have been involved. Our co-ordinator, Janice is doing a fantastic job and made this part of experience very much worthwile and enjoyable. We were led to believe outside of the times of our helping out with the kids, we would be staying with a Nepali family in a hostel of which would also have added to the whole experience. Unfortunately the hostel that we stayed in had recently been taken over by an American family and although pleasant, they had there own agenda.”

“I enjoyed my volunteering experience with POD in Nepal. I was supported throughout the booking process in the UK as well as while I was on placement. I was fully informed of the projects I would be involved in and how the POD charity was contributing to these organisations locally. I liked that they spoke about the bigger picture in what they were trying to achieve and how any little changes or impact I made contributed to this. I would fully recommend POD.”
