“As a person who tried to find some independant reviews of Kingsmead for our loft conversion, I thought I would give some more detailed feedback of the sort of things I would have liked to find when I was looking around to choose who to invite in to quote for the work.
Glowing reports are not always useful, and tend to make me question if they were in fact written by the supplier!!
So lets start with the con's;
- The start date for the work was delayed for a couple of weeks. Not ideal, and had an impact on other works going on afterwards to the point where we had multiple teams in the house who should have had a nice gap between them. There was a reason given, and it was reasonable, but would have liked it to have started as planned.
- Communications were not always as good as I would have liked. I was not always sure the message for extras or tweaks or requests for updated had got through, though I would find that the message was acted upon - so it obviously was! - I just did not know it until that point.
The Pro's
- Most importantly, we are really pleased with the end result.
- The layout has turned out to be great, and the use of space very well planned out.
- Changes to the plan were possible inside the shell of the loft conversion.
- We were able to adjust things like sockets, walls etc to fit the furniture and fixtures we wanted - some of which literally to the point of the end of the build (ceiling fan position once the fitted wardrobes were spec'd).
- All the workers were polite, clean, and enagaged in their work.
- Anything they ate e.g.: wrappers went straight into a bag, and into the skip. No feeling of mess or being untidy.
- We were asked about specifics as we went along. Facia's, guttering etc.
- Flexed their tming when we had issues with other services which meant a small delay for other company to complete work so Kingsmead could continue.
- Handled our youngest kids well, despite numerous questions of all flavours!
- Felt trustworthy to the point where we were happy to leave the house with them there.
And most importantly to me the trades who have been in since (painter, carpeting, electrician, carpenter) for other work have all commented on what a good solid and well finished build it is - which to me is worth its weight in gold.
Very happy with the end result, from a company whose pricing was one of the best we had had.
Would recommend, and in fact have done so, to others.”
“I would thoroughly recommend Kingsmead. We had our loft conversion done over Christmas 2014 - which on the face of it looked like a silly idea. However, the team were able to get the structure all set up before Christmas and finished the job shortly after Christmas. We were made aware at each stage what was going to happen and were impressed by the team employed to do the job.
Decisions needed to be made along the way and we never felt pressurised - just given the options from which we made our choices.
The room is fantastic and 6 months later we can't remember what it was like before the conversion!
We retained a decent amount of storage and the natural light that we get is fantastic.”
