It is too expensive, long and fairly complicated to complete. All of the new windows opening and the system not showing what’s done without constant refresh of a page…😒 on top of that the amount of work needed to complete the IOSH course…as if I didn’t have work to do. The fact that certificate does not come by email straight away is annoying as I am waiting for it coz I need it in order to start work. Would not recommend this course.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We're genuinely sorry to hear that the course didn’t meet your expectations, though we appreciate the opportunity to clarify a few points for others who may be considering the same course. We understand that cost is an important factor, which is why we work hard to keep our prices as affordable as possible. In fact, the course you completed and passed is typically available at around half the price charged by many other training providers offering the same qualification. As for the length and complexity of the course, it's worth noting that the syllabus is set by the awarding body and we must ensure the content fully meets their rigorous standards. While this means the course is comprehensive, it also ensures that learners gain a recognised, high-quality qualification. Our online format allows learners to complete the course at their own pace, in far less time than the traditional classroom-based alternative, which typically takes 3 to 4 full days. We also appreciate that the system may not suit everyone, but this structure is designed to allow maximum flexibility—so learners can jump in and out of content and pick up where they left off, across any device, whenever it suits them. Our platform is available 24/7, from any location, and learners can start immediately—there’s no need to wait for a scheduled course date or travel to a venue. Regarding certification, RoSPA, CPD, IoH allow us to issue our own certificates – these are all issued immediately. IOSH and IEMA issue their own certificates. As a training centre, we submit completions to IOSH and IEMA as soon as learners finish—7 days a week, including bank holidays—to minimise any delay. The turnaround time from there is dependent on the awarding bodies processing times. We understand how important it is to receive your certificate quickly and share your frustration with any delay, but we do everything possible to fast-track this on our side. Lastly, while we’re not familiar with the exact details of your work situation, it’s encouraging to hear that your employer requires the qualification as a condition for starting work. That alone shows the value and recognition this course has in the industry. Thanks again for your feedback—it helps us continue improving the learning experience for everyone. We're always here to help, and we wish you all the best in your new role.

This training was repetitive and I truly believe below standards met by previos training programs I have completed in the past.

A lot of the exam questions were 'fill in the blank' in a sentence. This type of question can easily be guessed by just looking at the grammar of the sentence and requires absolutely no knowledge of the subject. Ie from the four options, often only one of the words makes grammatical sense in that sentence so that has to be the right answer. You could easily pass the exam without understanding any of the content of the course. Disappointed- with the cost of the course I would have expected stronger assessment methods.

Many thanks for your feedback. The question bank in that course is set by IOSH (the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) and so they are not within our direct control. The questions used during the assessment are selected at random from that question bank. We’ve looked at a sample of recent assessments and found that, on average, that type of question appeared about 5 to 15% of the time. Of course, by the nature of selecting questions randomly, you may have had more than the average number. We will however pass your comments on to IOSH.

There needs to be a better process of printing of the presentation slides. not being able to print them off made it difficult to make notes.

Many thanks for your feedback Wilson. It is actually a requirement placed on us by IOSH not to provide a copy of the slides. As we understand it there are two reasons for this: One is to avoid students simply printing it off and using it as reference during the exam and the second was to help the student to develop the skill of taking in the information provided and using hand written notes to decide on the key points being made. So as it stands we are unable to do as you ask, but given your comments we will keep it under review with IOSH and will do so if it becomes permissible in the future.

Unfortunately I did not find the course a good learning exercise. There are too many cross overs with CSCS. The presentation format was basic, slow and slide transitions tedious. In the course, too many questions relating to non-useful facts were asked with all answers seemingly plausible (e.g. how many deaths from falls from height last year 5, 10 or 15). What is the point in this as a question when all results are sensible answers?

Many thanks for your feedback. This is the first 2 star review that we have received. (Our current average is 4.85 out of 5, achieved across 1183 reviews.) So we take your comments very seriously and would like to understand more about them. If you could contact us at tutors@hsqe.co.uk or 0333 733 1111 we would really appreciate it. To answer some of the points you raise: (1) We publish our course content on our website and in our training catalogue. As such, you should have been able to see in advance of booking the course that the content is similar to what is covered in SMSTS. But we will look at how we can make the course content stand out more. (2) The manner of course delivery is a difficult one for us, because the vast majority of our feedback suggests that people like the simplicity of the user interface, so we do not propose to change that. (3) We only use transitions where needed to distinguish one section from another. 90% of transition times are 2 seconds in duration. The remaining 10% are 3-4 seconds. We cannot do much about the 2 second transitions, as to go quicker would make distinguishing sections difficult for users to spot. We can, and will, however look at changing the 3-4 second transitions in light of your feedback. (4) Again, the asking of questions during the course is a difficult one for us, as other feedback suggests people like that because it helps to put the content in perspective and adds depth to people’s understanding. As stated earlier, we’d really appreciate it if you could get in contact with us so that we can understand a bit more about your feedback.
