I'm a senior who has dabbled with the guitar for many years without a lot of direction or commitment. So these lessons are a nice way to reengage with the instrument. I'm still working my way through the theory lessons but so far so good! The lessons have reaffirmed my basic knowledge, filled in much needed gaps and hopefully by the time I'm finished give me a well rounded understanding of the theory in order to undertake other courses and improve my guitar playing. Thank you Dan and the YGA team.

This is an excellent theory course taking you from the basics to greatly understanding music. Even if you have previously taken a theory course, Dan tutors in a way that ties elements of theory together that you may have missed or need a refresher. I had previously taken the RCM theory courses but found this one was very practical especially for guitar players. Thanks Dan for the great presentation of the material!

Most helpful step by step instruction for guitar theory I have seen. I have had lessons, read books, watched videos, used charts, drawn circles of fifths for 30 plus years all to no avail. Within minutes this started to take shape and I have made incredible steady progress without it seeming to be so foreign. Great work building the course! Thanks--Joe

This is such a well scripted, organized and clear course. I learned more in a few weeks than I did with years of lessons. Dan is amazing. He is clear, has great pace and a sense of humour. I watch his lessons over and over.

Generally really like almost all YGA lessons and courses, I haven't got as far (yet) with Theory Lab as I'd hoped, but the more interactive approach to the content seems good and reinforces learning the theory side of guitar.

If, like me, you’ve grappled with guitar theory for many years on and off, and found it to be some mystical dark art understandable only to an elite bunch of higher beings, then this course can really help you to see that guitar theory is actually incredibly simple, logical and the best thing you can do to enhance your playing. Your tutor Dan is so unbelievably on the money when it comes to breaking things down to help you see, not just the individual pieces of the jigsaw, but rather how they all fit together and explain things you have possibly, again like me, tried in vain to memorise, only to have forgotten a few days down the line. I now know how to construct and find on the neck various fundamental scales without having to memorise ridiculous amounts of notes. I can construct any chord having simply memorised some basic formulae, each formula systematically building on the last, and I understand how modes are all derivatives of the parent scale, just shifted so they take on a different quality. As well as lots more nuggets which I can bring into my playing as and when I need to. Talk about light bulb moments...I have had several lightning bolts. In essence, this stuff isn’t really that difficult, it’s just that it really needs breaking down into bite sized chunks, and as a teacher myself, I can honestly say Dan does it beautifully. The PDF workbook is invaluable too as the more you work through the videos, you realise the basis is largely the same throughout a concept and finally, all of the crazy dots on the crazy grids are really starting to speak to me. This course will save you HOURS of time trawling through the internet, and save you a fortune in buying books. Thanks guys!
