The webinar on flea control was informative and useful because it explained that flea infestation is not only a problem of the animal, but also a problem of the environment. One of the main ideas presented was that the cat flea, Ctenocephalides felis, can parasitize not only cats, but also dogs, rodents, lagomorphs, ferrets and even wildlife casualties. This shows that flea control must be approached carefully, especially when several animals live in the same place. A very important point of the webinar was the role of the environment in maintaining infestation. Fleas do not live only on the animal. Their eggs, larvae and pupae can be found in carpets, bedding and other areas where the animal rests. Because of this, treating only the animal may not be enough, as new fleas can continue to hatch from the environment. The webinar also presented practical measures for environmental treatment. These included the use of pyrethroids, growth regulators and silicone-based products, together with simple but essential measures such as vacuuming carpets and washing bedding. I found this part very useful because it connected the theoretical information about the flea life cycle with practical control methods. In my opinion, the webinar was valuable because it showed that successful flea control requires a complete strategy. The animal must be treated, but the environment must also be cleaned and treated in order to prevent reinfestation. The information was clear, practical and relevant for veterinary practice, animal shelters and pet owners.
