Interesting talk and a very useful summary of current storage concepts. The invisible (unmentioned) elephant was in omitting any strategic consideration for the veterinary profession of the environmental damage done by continuing to increase the numbers of domesticated livestock and companion animals as well as of humans. No point storing the wonderful life of this planet if we deny the other species room on it.

Interesting conversation, so far about the development of equine & livestock AI, no doubt embryos, ovaries will follow. Tor the 'other' species, the lab animal folk have led in all of these (even applied to pandas, rhinos etc). Rare breeds? Please may we get real: By the time that an entire species attracts conservation effort, in-breeding is a major issue in trying to prevent its loss. Love rare breeds too - especially Suffolk horse, moily cows BUT ONLY SO FAR. This is NOT THE PRIORITY when so many whole species have reached a point where in-breeding amongst survivors is a confounding factor. These species DO NOT HAVE THE LUXURY OF DIVERSIFICATION INTO TYPES & BREEDS. Furthermore EVERY wild species counterpart of our domesticated breeds is directly threatened by these and by other human problems - agricultural encroachment, ferals etc etc. Not sure that feral cats in Aus are anything other than human BLIGHT
