“For those who can’t take PPIs, namely Lansoprazole, Omeprazole, etc., Famotidine is the only remaining available treatment for reflux apart from Gaviscon and antacids. It is effective and has a better side effect profile than PPIs. I am surprised that, with Ranitidine off the market, it is not more commonly prescribed.”

“I took Ranitidine tablets for GERD for over 20 years, until they became unavailable. After reading about different medication options I decided to try Famotidine being another H2 type medication. I am unable to take Proton Pump Inhibitors a they caused me severe side effect. Famotidine worked better than Ranitidine, having no unpleasant after taste when I swallowed them, and controlling acid reflux symptoms completely, with each 20mg dose lasting 12 hours, although some people may find 20mg will last 24 hours. I initially tried Famotidine through a private prescription from Independent Pharmacy, but now my GP has started prescribing them to me.”
