Micralax enemas only act on the stool and takes action locally in the rectum to soften the stool and make it easier to pass. The bowel will evacuate as a result within 30 minutes.
This treatment is not however intended as a stool softener as it is not effective beyond the stool the liquid can reach in the rectum.
Should you wish to obtain a stool softener to help draw water into the bowel a different treatment would be more suitable.
