Aldara cream helps an outbreak of your symptoms disappear, usually, within 4 months of starting the treatment half the men who clear will do so in 12 weeks, given the nature of the medicine as it acts as an immune response modifier, this can take more time that other more immediate treatments, but the results, whilst they may take longer to be noticed, are typically longer lasting.
Whilst your condition cannot be 100% cured — only treated when your immune system is under stress, they may reappear; even after a successful course of treatment, but some medicines may be more effective for you than others. Other topical treatments are available to help treat the affected area which you may find more effective.
Aside from topical treatments, you can also seek physical removal through surgery (burning them away or slicing them off using a blade or a laser) or freezing (killing the tissue so it eventually falls off). This may be necessary if you have a large affected area. Topical treatment is not suitable or has not been effective and your GP or sexual health clinic can advise you if this is the case.
